The All-New Jeep® Grand Cherokee L Is Arriving In Dealer Inventories:

The Fifth-Generation Grand Cherokee Is Finally Here...

It’s been almost 30 years since the Jeep® brand launched the Grand Cherokee nameplate. Since then, the Grand Cherokee has become the most-awarded SUV nameplate ever and has sold nearly 7 million around the world. Well, a new chapter is upon us, with the launch of the first part of a trio of new variants for the all-new Grand Cherokee (WL) that is now arriving in dealer’s inventories around the country.

Entering its fifth generation, the Grand Cherokee has been designed and engineered to deliver an unmatched combination of legendary 4×4 capability, class-leading on-road refinement, premium craftsmanship both inside and out, in a stylish package that offers the most advanced safety and technology features than ever before. This leads up to the introduction of the all-new 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L (also known as the WL75).

The 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is the first Grand Cherokee to ever offer seating for 6 or 7 passengers, depending on the configuration.

The all-new Grand Cherokee L continues the Grand Cherokee legendary 4×4 capability by offering Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II, or Quadra-Drive II 4×4 systems, Quadra-Lift air suspension, Selec-Terrain traction management system to dominate any terrain thrown at it. With its first all-new architecture in a decade and a newly aerodynamic body, the new Grand Cherokee L is designed to improve performance, safety, and reliability than the Grand Cherokee (WK2) it replaces. This means significantly reduced vehicle weight, noise, vibration, and harshness.

The Grand Cherokee L is offered in four trim configurations (Laredo, Limited, Overland, and Summit). There will be a darkened-themed Altitude model based on the Laredo and an off-road-oriented Overland with Off-Road Group.

The Overland with Off-Road Group offers “Trail Rated” capability like class-leading traction, ground clearance, maneuverability, articulation, and improved water fording (capable of up to 24 inches). The Off-Road Group also includes high-strength steel skid plates, electronic limited-slip differential rear axle, 18-inch aluminum wheels, and rugged, all-season performance tires.

That's new - so Mack is building WL75, WL74, WL74 PHEV. I presume there will be a WL75 PHEV in the next year or so as well.

What will the renovated JNAP build - more WL74/WD? Is it possible that they continue to build the old WK2 as well?

You pose some interesting questions and your speculation on continued WK2 production is thought provoking. Could the WK2, reskinned and updated become the next generation Cherokee? I have the opinion that going RWD will help the Cherokee in capability, add performance models and free it from the shadow of is FWD Compass-Renegade cousins. It also frees up its current factory for new product, perhaps spin-offs from Peugeot for a couple of Chrysler brand vehicles. Makes for a good discussion.

According to FCA, WL74, WL74 PHEV, and WL75 will all be produced at Mack. WL74 and WD will be produced at Jefferson.

Nothing has been said of a PHEV WL75 from the automaker.

I hope not. If something is going to be "reskinned and updated," do it to the Stelvio.
