What You Missed At Roadkill Nights Powered By Dodge:

Event Kicks Off Woodward Dream Cruise Week...

This past weekend, we had a chance to attend “Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge” on the grounds of M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan. The event has become the kickoff event for the Woodward Dream Cruise week in Metro Detroit. This year marked the fifth anniversary of the annual event and it didn’t disappoint. Tens of thousands of people lined Woodward Avenue (M1) to watch some amazing cars run the 1/8-mile on a prepped shut down section of the historic road that runs from Pontiac, Michigan to downtown Detroit, Michigan.

Hundreds of cars showed up to be on display, while there was a section just dedicated to Mopars (mainly Dodges). Fans could choose from riding in a Dodge Charger SRT HELLCAT or Dodge Challenger SRT HELLCAT Widebody on a drift course or part of the road course of the Champion Motor Speedway. While the lines were long and some people waited almost two hours in line to get a ride in their favorite Dodge muscle car, the smiles coming from the people as they exited the cars could tell you it was worth the wait. Show cars also had a chance to run their cars on a rolling dyno, to see how much power they truly make. There was a ton of things to do through the day for everyone.

Dodge had a ton of vehicles on display as well. Vehicles like the 2018 Dodge Durango SRT Mopar ’18, 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T “Stars & Stripes” Edition, 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320, 2020 Dodge Charger SRT HELLCAT Widebody, and the 2020 Dodge Charger SRT HELLCAT Widebody race car Randy Probst ran at Pikes Peak, just to name a few.

Then you had a bunch of the Mopar-themed Roadkill vehicles on display as well. Of course the iconic HELLCAT-powered 1968 Dodge Charger “General Mayhem” was there, along with its modern counterpart “General Maintenance”. The 1968 Dodge “Death Metal” Charger, the 1970 Dodge “Off-Road Challenger”, and the 1982 Dodge Roadkill Rampage.

But the real reason people came to Roadkill Nights was the drag racing. Some amazing Mopars and non-Mopars came for a chance to win $20,000 in both the Big Tire and Small Tire categories. We saw an array of modern Mopars, rat rods, sleeper cars, big turbocharged cars, nitrous cars, and some pickups with big-block stuff under the hood. If you missed it, we will post the video of the entire event below…

We also saw Leah Pritchett and her Dodge//SRT “Angry Bee” 1320 Top Fuel Dragster and Matt Hagan and his 2020 Dodge Charger SRT HELLCAT Widebody Funny Car doing burnouts down the 1/8-mile on Woodward. The 12,000+ horsepower motors shook the ground, and with us being down trackside, it was like being hit in the chest. Nothing can compare to the experience of being only a few feet from that my horsepower. There was also exhibition runs by the legendary HEMI Under Glass Dart, freestyle motocross, and flamethrower cars.

The event is a must for all car enthusiasts and is quickly becoming a bucket list item for those who don’t live around the Metro Detroit area. We can’t wait for next year’s event. While it’s exhausting trying to take in everything in a  small-time, Roadkill Nights aims squarely at the entertaining the whole family no matter if they are a car fan or not.
