Dodge’s Long Forgotten Dodge Viper Cup Series:

Awesome Road Course Racing, In Some Of The Best American Track Killers...

With the COVID-19 (or Coronavirus) crisis causing the motorsports world to come to a standstill across the globe, a lot of people have focused their attention on iRacing’s NASCAR Pro Invitational simulation racing events. NASCAR drivers for the past three weeks have been using iRacing’s realistic simulation platform to continue the spirit of the racing season alive, during these hard times.

However, for Dodge fans, NASCAR has not been part of the brand’s motorsport portfolio since it left NASCAR racing after winning the 2012 championship with Brad Keselowski and his Penske Racing team and switched their focus to supporting NHRA drag racing. Well, MoparInsiders.com has something that might interest the Dodge and Mopar fanatics out there.

A lot of people have forgotten about Dodge and Mopar’s factory-backed Dodge Viper racing series, the Dodge Viper Cup. The Dodge Viper Cup consisted of a field made of 2010 Dodge Viper ACR-X models. Offering a mix of professional and amateur drivers, the Dodge Viper Cup series traveled for a couple of seasons across North America to some of the continent’s best road courses and offered some of the best road racing battles out there.

Some of the courses included Miller Motorsports Park, VIR, Pocono Raceway, Sebring, and Daytona. The Top-10 finishers of each race would receive both a cash payout and a Parts Voucher, as credit towards the purchase of Mopar parts and accessories. The season’s champion would take home a $10,000 at the end of the season.

Thanks to the miracle of the internet, most of the full races can still be seen on the SRT YouTube channel. If you decide to watch the races, you might see some familiar faces in today’s motorsports world including FCA Head of Design, Ralph Gilles, who at the time was the CEO of the Dodge and then SRT brands.
