Charger Daytona delayed? Prototypes supposedly failing.

Sigh....

Why is it taking so long to get this car right??

This was the worst review and they seemed to have come at the bar with a negative bias. Every review I watched was net positive except these two

Most reviews I've seen have been fairly negative on it. I even watched reviews from EV-loving journalists, thinking they'd be more positive about the car, but they seemed more negative about it than the non-EV guys. Even the ones that weren't super negative weren't glowing, and you can tell they will have a harsher take on it when they spend more than just a few hours with one at a sponsored press event.

I want to like the car, but we didn't get invited to go out so I can't say much about how it drives other than my limited experience with it so far.

The good news is that many concerns, such as throttle tuning etc, can be resolved with software updates.

The car looks so good inside and out. The hatchback type design that allows so much cargo storage is a huge plus. The fact that the rear seats are actually usable by humans is a huge plus. They knocked it out of the park……except for the drivetrain. It was a horrible decision to pick such an iconic car and such an important car in the portfolio to use for EV experimentation. They should have done ICE Charger immediately.

Oh well. It sounds like leadership is shaking up and feelings internally are changing fast, and I have a hunch that we’re going to see positive changes over the next 90 days. I look for big announcements at the Detroit show.

Huh? Did we watch the same review? Is this your first time watching TH?

That by no means was a bad review. At all.

I thought it was the most brutally honest review of the car on YouTube, and I applaud them for being bold enough to say on video what everybody else is thinking but doesn't have the guts to say at a press event.

Patrick Rall like it,

Some people have already decided to dislike it so much, that there is absolutely NOTHING that will change their mind. Some on this Thread will NEVER even give it a Chance.

Given that I will not judge it until I drive it myself.

Confirmation Bias is real.

In general I'm afraid of too high weight. For STLA Large cars in general.

The other one is battery management. It seems that STLA is not at where it should be. Inefficient BEV products.

Its not like Samsung has been awesome at it for them.

It is 1200lbs more than the tesla..... 2 of the people that I know who have actually driven one said it handled better than the outgoing model.

Given the Tesla is low content nearly exotic car. Using the battery as part of the structure saves a lot of weight, go to wonder if not going Skateboard was a error.

Not from a flexibility perspective but from weight perspective. Also like to see it and a S side by side.

Now that Leap is an in-house brand maybe the skateboard design should be given a second thought. It is too late for the Charger, but not for a Chrysler sedan or CUV. There is a thread for the Chrysler sedan, I'm simply saying the Leap connection gives that brand a second chance. What we have that Leap doesn't is our own IC engines for extended range and the ability to make major components instead of relying on vendors.

That has merit and pilot in China, the New Mazda EV was launched that way.

It will be interesting to see the weight of ICE version. Is it just battery or a size and content thing.

There does seem to be a rush to SS battery which I full support and image is an order of magnitude lighter.

STLA Large so far has 3 subversions with 4th coming.
RWD one for Charger, multienergy
FWD for 3 Mexican Jeeps, multienergy
BEV only so far for Giulia and Stelvio

4th is for some SUV models like Grand Cherokee, Durango and big Alfa SUV

I don’t think most reviewers were lying when they gave it positive or decent reviews. Throttle House didn’t even know the car was a widebody and they were standing in front of it. they clearly had their hater blinders on and I can’t take them seriously.

Look at them hips... not to mention how functional the new hatch is

But, it ISN’T a wide body as we’ve seen from previous Charger and Challenger. How is that a complaint? And objectively having flared bodywork like that doesn’t necessarily make it a wide body. Although, he’ll Dodge tried to call Durango a wide body so….

What other issues did you have with their review?

First of all, The Daytona is wider than the tacked-on fender flare "wide body" of the previous gen - I'd say that makes the new car a wide body. You only need to see Bob's photo above to note that the new gen is a wide body. The goons even did a photoshop with the tacked-on flares - they were clearly unaware of how wide the car is which is unacceptable IMO.

One of the reviews I watched mentioned that it was *just* narrow enough to not need clearance lights like a TRX or Raptor
