Alfa Romeo CEO Says Next Quadrifoglio Could Have Around 1,000 HP

Next Giulia Could Have A Tri-Motor Setup...

Alfa Romeo’s upcoming replacement for the Giulia Quadrifoglio sedan promises to be a game-changer for the brand. Alfa Romeo CEO, Jean-Philippe Imparato, has announced that the all-electric successor to the Giulia will offer around 1,000 horsepower, which is an impressive feat for an electric car. The Giorgio rear-wheel-drive platform used by the Giulia is unable to accommodate electric powertrains, prompting Stellantis to develop its new STLA Large platform for its electric vehicles (EVs).

The Giorgio platform is well-known for its handling, but Alfa Romeo’s current lineup falls short in other areas, such as comfort and technology, compared to its German rivals. However, the new all-electric Giulia and Stelvio successors promise to bring Alfa Romeo up to speed. The Giulia will have a range of 435 miles and an entry-level spec offering 345 horsepower. The performance-oriented Veloce will reportedly get 790 horsepower, while the range-topping Quadrifoglio will boast 986 horsepower, split between three e-motors.

Alfa Romeo is expected to source its battery cells from LG Chem, the same supplier as Maserati. The automaker’s CEO has emphasized the importance of transforming the brand into a fully electric one. He said, “We switch because we must. If not, Alfa Romeo would be dead.” However, he was also quick to qualify the transformation as one that owners would appreciate. “We will switch in a real concrete substitution mode. I don’t want you to suffer from anything. I want you to love it.”

Design-wise, the Giulia could evolve from its current sedan form to become more of a fastback-style wagon. However, it will still be “the Alfa Romeo we all want,” according to Imparato. The new Giulia is expected to arrive by the middle of the decade, helping Alfa Romeo achieve its goal of being a purely electric brand by 2027.

This timeline likely means the new vehicle will share Stellantis’ 800-volt electrical architecture. As a result, the Guilia will offer substantial performance as well as quick charging capability, with a 10 to 80% recharge taking less than 18 minutes.
