EXCLUSIVE: Take A Closer Look At Some Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 Components

We Get An Up Close Look At The Fuel System, Differential, And More...

On March 20th, Dodge unveiled the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170. The record-breaking car can cover the quarter mile in an NHRA-certified 8.91 seconds at 151.17 MPH while running on E85 fuel, making it history’s first-ever eight-second factory muscle car.

A lot of enthusiasts have wanted since the reveal to get a closer look at some Demon 170 parts, namely the fuel system, rear differential, and more. Today, thanks to an anonymous tipster, we can give you just that with these exclusive photos.

Fuel System:

One of the highlights of the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 is the ability to run the vehicle on E85 fuel. Dodge has used a flex fuel sensor (pictured above) positioned at the back of the passenger-side fuel rail. As a result, the Demon 170 can automatically adjust from using pump gas (E10) while producing 900 horsepower and 810 lb.-ft. of torque to pump out 1,025 horsepower and 945 Ib.-ft. of torque on E85.

This is another shot of the fuel rail looking down. We tried looking up the part number but have come up empty-handed.

2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 Fuel Line (MoparInsiders)

This is another fascinating piece that we haven’t been able to come up with an explanation for. This is the fuel line underneath the car. As you can see, the line passes through this welded steel or aluminum box. The reasoning for it we aren’t really sure.

Throttle Body:

The 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 features a large 105mm throttle body feeding that 3.0-liter IHI supercharger. Here is a shot of the throttle body, manufactured by Vitesco (formerly Continental Powertrains).

Rear Differential:

Demon 170s feature a 240mm ring and pinion (10mm larger than the previous Demon) and a pressure cast case with new mounts. In addition, Dodge claims the new housing is 53% stronger and features new geometry. The photos show that the housing features the Direct Connection logo and larger rear cover-mount fasteners. The housing also features an increased depth for that larger ring and pinion.

Axle Shafts:

While Dodge hasn’t mentioned the axle shafts, our source sent us these photos and said they seem much larger than the Redeye/Demon axle shafts. This would make sense with the amount of force (2.0G’s) the Demon 170 can launch with.

Rear Spindles:

We also received these two photos of the rear spindles. As you can see, there is a curious steel brace bolted to the aluminum spindle. This brace connects the top of the spindle on the opposite end of the upper control arm to the back side of the spindle where the upper caliper bolt goes. The brace allows for travel of the control arm, but we are unsure of the purpose now. Likely, the brace strengthens the upper spindle mounting point and transfers forces down lower on the spindle.

Here are some close-ups of the front and rear 4-piston Brembo brakes and non-carbon fiber wheels.

Conclusion:

While these photos show us some interesting new parts on the Demon 170, it is essential to note that they are from a pre-production vehicle. Of course, things can change between now and when the first production units roll off the line, and of course, being a pre-production vehicle, the fit, and finish of these parts is not representative of production.
