AUCTION: Modified 1998 Jeep® Cherokee Sport 4×4 At No Reserve

This Jeep Reminds How Cool The XJ Really Is...

The 1998 Jeep® Cherokee Sport 4×4 (XJ) holds a special place in the hearts of off-road enthusiasts, and this particular model has been taken to the next level by the skilled team at Davis AutoSports in Charles City, Virginia. This refurbished and modified XJ is a testament to the timeless appeal and versatility of the Cherokee. With its striking green exterior, powerful performance upgrades, and a host of off-road enhancements, this Jeep is ready to conquer any terrain. Let’s delve into the details of this remarkable machine.

Finished in a vibrant green paint scheme over black leather upholstery, this XJ commands attention wherever it goes. The exterior modifications include curved LED light bars mounted above the windshield and front bumper, LED headlights, rock sliders, and a rearview camera for improved visibility. A Defender roof basket and a swing-away rear carrier with a matching spare tire add both functionality and rugged style to this adventure-ready vehicle. The overall exterior condition is impressive despite some corrosion on the front and rear bumper shackles.

To enhance its off-road capabilities, Davis AutoSports equipped this Cherokee with a Rubicon Express suspension lift kit and FOX™ shock absorbers, ensuring a smooth and controlled ride over any terrain. The modifications also include a Rubicon Express adjustable track bar, JKS tie rod bar, MOOG tie rod ends, end links, and pitman arms for improved steering response. The braking system features disc brakes with cross-drilled rotors at the front and drums at the rear, delivering reliable stopping power. The inclusion of a Fox steering stabilizer enhances stability on rough trails.

Gray-finished 17-inch Davis AutoSports alloy wheels wrapped in 285/70 Nitto Trail Grappler M/T tires provide both style and traction on and off the road. The aftermarket wheel setup is complemented by a spare tire mounted on the swing-away rear carrier. While the wheels may exhibit minor imperfections, they do not compromise their functionality.

Step inside the cabin, and you’ll find a thoughtfully upgraded interior. Heated front bucket seats and a rear bench, both reupholstered in black leather with gray microsuede inserts, provide both comfort and durability. The color-coordinated dashboard and door panels contribute to a cohesive and visually appealing cabin. DynaMat sound-deadening material has been added beneath the replacement carpets to reduce noise, and rubberized floor mats protect the footwells. Notable features include air conditioning, JCR Offroad door map pockets, a DEI alarm system, remote start, Polk speakers, and a flip-out touchscreen head unit with navigation, rearview camera, and Bluetooth connectivity.

Under the hood lies a replacement 4.0-liter inline-six engine installed during the current ownership. The cooling system has been modified with a dual-core high-performance radiator, high-flow water pump, auxiliary electric cooling fan, and a replacement thermostat and housing, ensuring optimal engine temperatures even during demanding off-road excursions. An oil change and fuel filter replacement was performed to prepare the vehicle for sale.

Power is transmitted through an Aisin-Warner AW4 four-speed automatic transmission, a dual-range transfer case, and front and rear differentials with 4.56:1 gears. The differentials were rebuilt under prior ownership, and G2 differential covers were installed for added durability. Additionally, a slip-yoke eliminator kit, revised driveshafts, and U-joints were fitted to enhance driveline reliability. The custom-fabricated exhaust system adds a robust sound to match the Jeep’s rugged nature.
