Ron Capps Will Be An Owner/Driver In NHRA Competition For 2022 Season!

NAPA Will Return As Major Sponsor, With Entire Team Moving With Capps...

Earlier today, two-time and reigning NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series Funny Car champion Ron Capps announced that he will be heading into the 2022 season as a team owner and driver. The news comes not long after Capps announced his departure from Don Schumacher Racing (DSR). The DSR stable of Mopar drivers has been reduced to none, with both of Capps’ Mopar teammates, Leah Pruett and Matt Hagan heading over to Tony Stewart Racing’s new NHRA venture

Ron Capps and his DSR team earned the 2021 NHRA Funny Car World Championship, the second of his 27-year career. (Mopar).

Capps made the official announcement of the formation of Ron Capps Motorsports (RCM) on Friday afternoon at the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show in Indianapolis. NAPA Auto Parts was also on hand to announce that they extended their contract with Capps for another three seasons going into 2022.

“I’ve always kept my eyes and ears open and paid attention to these great team owners that I’ve worked for, and always hoped that one day I’d have the chance to own my own team,” Capps said during his announcement at PRI. “So, a huge thank-you to NAPA Auto Parts for giving me this chance. I’m so excited to go into 2022 and beyond with this incredible team and NAPA’s support.”

While a manufacturer has yet to be announced, it is rumored that Capps will continue his relationship with Dodge//SRT. The RCM team will consist of Capps’ entire 2021 championship-winning team led by co-crew chiefs, Dean Antonelli and John Medlen. The RCM team will continue to operate out of the DSR headquarters in Brownsburg, Indiana.

RCM will announce a manufacturer partner and additional associate partnerships at a later date. We hope to see Capps and the entire team will be back under the Mopar banner for 2022. We will continue to bring updates on Capps’ 2022 season details as they become available.
