Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 15,835 model year 2017 to 2020 Fiat 124 Spider vehicles. A software error in the airbag control module may cause the front airbags to deploy with excessive force during a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208, “Occupant Crash Protection.”
Certain 2017-2020 Model Year (“MY”) Fiat/Abarth 124 Spider vehicles may have been built with airbag control module software that may improperly command a dual-stage front airbag deployment instead of the intended single-stage deployment in certain crashes.
The suspect period began on March 1, 2016, when 2017 MY production began and ended on August 31, 2020, when production ended. The recall population was determined using vehicle production records.
There are no similar vehicles not included in this recall.
