Pentastar-Powered Ram 1500 Big Horn Makes Its European Debut

European Can Now Opt For A More Affordable, Efficient Pentastar Engine...

Ram is set to make waves in the European market with its latest offering. In a bold move to reduce CO2 emissions and cater to environmentally-conscious enthusiasts, Ram has introduced the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine with the eTorque mild-hybrid system. This engine delivers impressive power and surprises with its exceptional fuel economy. With this strategic step, Ram aims to align its vehicles with lower environmental impact and meet the demands of European consumers.

At the heart of Ram’s latest lineup lies the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 eTorque engine, which impresses with its remarkable performance. Boasting an impressive 305 horsepower and 364 Nm (273 lb.-ft.) of torque, this engine perfectly balances power and durability. European enthusiasts can now find this engine option available in three iconic Ram models: the Ram 1500 Big Horn, Ram 1500 Laramie, and Ram 1500 Rebel.

The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 eTorque engine incorporates advanced hybrid technology to maximize efficiency and power delivery. It features a 430-watt-hour lithium-ion nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) graphite battery pack, which provides a 48-volt current during launch and gear shifting. Additionally, a 3-kilowatt DC-to-DC converter enables the battery to utilize a conventional 12-volt starter motor for cold starts, ensuring optimal performance in extreme temperatures. This combination of hybrid capabilities and traditional engineering allows for fast stop-start functions, superior fuel economy, and reduced CO2 emissions.

Ram’s commitment to fuel efficiency is evident in the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 eTorque engine. With its advanced technologies, such as wide-range variable valve timing and two-step variable valve lift, the engine optimizes power and fuel economy based on the driver’s demand. The result is a combined fuel consumption figure 19% lower than the 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 engine, as the EPA (Environment Protection Agency) reported. Furthermore, a cooled exhaust gas recirculation system enhances fuel economy and reduces emissions during higher load conditions.

The engine’s 11.3:1 compression ratio strikes an ideal balance between power, fuel efficiency, and refinement. Energy recovery from deceleration and braking increases towing and payload capacity and facilitates battery pack recharging. Additionally, the additional torque at the crankshaft minimizes noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH), resulting in a comfortable driving experience. Combined with improved fuel management, these features appeal to a broader audience and cater to younger drivers seeking performance and aesthetics in their vehicles.

The introduction of the 2023 Ram 1500 Big Horn provides Europeans with a more affordable option within the Ram 1500 lineup. The Big Horn trim level includes chrome bumpers, a chrome grille surround, and halogen headlights (LED lighting is optional). Sport and Black Appearance Packages will also be available for those looking for unique appearances. The interior of the powerful model offers two customization options, including an optional trim package with a closed upper dash door featuring a Big Horn nameplate badge, a power driver seat, and a Uconnect 8.4-inch multifunction touchscreen. Seating options include a five-passenger bucket or six-passenger bench seating, with premium cloth seats available in Black/Diesel Grey or all Black accented with new interior finishes.

To successfully launch the 3.6-liter eTorque Pentastar V6 engine-powered Ram vehicles in Europe, Ram has partnered with AEC & KWA networks as their International Commercial Partners. This strategic collaboration ensures effective marketing and distribution channels, ensuring that European consumers can easily access and experience Ram’s latest offerings.
