Stellantis Training Employees To Drive Trucks Amid Logistics Issues

Line Workers Are Now Delivering Vehicles To Dealers...

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has had a ripple effect on industries beyond its borders, with the shortage of truck drivers in Europe being just one of its many consequences. With many truck drivers coming from Ukraine, the conflict has prevented them from doing their jobs, leaving a significant deficit of people to transport cars from factories to dealers across Europe.

But the issue has been compounded by the pandemic and the semiconductor shortage, which have slowed down car production and reduced the demand for truck drivers. As automakers in Europe resume their operations, they are struggling to find enough drivers to transport their cars, causing logistical issues.

However, Stellantis has found a creative solution to the problem. The company is training its factory workers to fill in for truck drivers, and it has even sent out emails and posters at its plants across Europe to lure in people who build cars to deliver them.

Stellantis has already signed up approximately 140 employees for the job and is paying to train them for their new roles. The company is also considering buying its own trucks to help alleviate the shortage of drivers. The job switch can be temporary or permanent, and if an employee decides to return to the factory, they will be allowed to have their job back.

To further speed up the delivery process, Stellantis is asking dealers to come to the factory to pick up customer vehicles and have them delivered quickly.
