The Ram brand is gearing up to launch an all-new compact pickup for the Latin American (LATAM) market, and enthusiasts are eagerly anticipating its unveiling. The new truck, codenamed “Project 291”, will be a unibody construction, which is similar to that of the Fiat Toro pickup but will be larger and more advanced.
The manufacturer is hoping to move up the launch date, as suppliers are scheduled to deliver parts for commercial production between the end of March and the beginning of April. The official unveiling is currently set for September.
The new Ram truck will feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter GME-T4 inline-four-cylinder engine, which is part of the Global Medium Engine family. This engine is expected to produce around 260 horsepower, and a 2.0-liter turbodiesel inline-four-cylinder engine will also be available.
According to reports from our friends at the Brazilian publication Autos Segredos, the new Ram truck will have a length of over 196.8 inches, a width close to 72.84 inches, and a height of around 70.92 inches. These dimensions will make it larger than the Fiat Toro pickup, which is already a popular option in the LATAM market.
Rather than giving it a traditional name like Dakota or Ram 1200, the company has decided to create a new and unique name for this vehicle. By doing so, Ram is not only aiming to distinguish this new truck from its existing lineup but also signaling its commitment to innovation and creativity.
Developing a distinctive name for this new truck could help to build excitement and anticipation among consumers, as they look forward to learning more about this new addition to the Ram family. It also reflects Ram’s intention to make a bold statement in the competitive world of pickup trucks.
The new Ram truck will also have a similar suspension setup to the Fiat Toro, but it will feature unique springs and recalibrated shocks due to its greater weight and dimensions. Additionally, it will share the electrical architecture and brake system of the Brazilian-built Jeep® Commander.
The new Ram compact pickup will undoubtedly be the most advanced vehicle produced in Brazil by Stellantis, and it is sure to appeal to truck enthusiasts in the LATAM market. With its powerful engine, unibody construction, and advanced features, the new Ram truck is poised to be a game-changer in the world of compact pickups.
According to our sources, the new compact truck is intended solely for the LATAM market and will not be released in North America.
