RamCharger Design Shows Us How Awesome A Ram SUV Could Be!

We Might Not Be Getting A RamCharger, But More Ram-Based SUVs Are Coming...

With the return of the upcoming Jeep® Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer (WS), it marks the first time that the former Chrysler Group is returning to the full-size SUV segment since the 2001 Dodge RamCharger left the Mexican marketplace. The new Jeep twins are based on the new Ram 1500 (DT) architecture, however, they will feature an independent rear suspension (IRS) instead of the Ram 1500’s solid rear axle.

We have seen several of these mules running around across the country, testing with a cutdown Ram 1500 Quad Cab body. A lot of people thought that the mules were that of a new midsize pickup or a Ram version of the new upcoming SUV. While we would love to see a new full-size Ram SUV, that doesn’t seem to be in the cards for the Ram Truck brand.

But it hasn’t stopped people like @wb.artist20 from using their imagination and using their Photoshop skills to show us ideas that “could have been”! This awesome two-door variant RamCharger design shows us just how good the 5th generation Ram 1500 Rebel would look in SUV form. Using the late-1980s RamCharger as his inspiration, wb.artist20 shows us a similar rear glass theme that that generation RamCharger had used.

While we would love to see such a vehicle, however, such a vehicle wouldn’t make sense in today’s market. While larger SUVs are making a come back, four-door models outweigh two-door models as well as Ram keeping its focus on trucks and commercial vans. But it doesn’t mean that another non-Jeep full-size SUV isn’t coming.

We have heard from our sources, that the Dodge Durango will eventually be moving to the Ram 1500-based full-size BoF architecture alongside the new WS twins, sometime in 2023. The 2021 Dodge Durango will be getting updates to hold it over until the next-generation vehicle is launched after the discontinuation of the Ram 1500 Classic pickup, so it can be manufactured at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Warren, Michigan, according to our sources.
