Dodge launched the Challenger T/A, a special version of their well-known muscle car created for Trans-Am racing, in March of 1970. At the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas this past year, Mopar and Graveyard Carz collaborated to produce a contemporary homage to this famous car built over 50 years ago.
That T/A Got A HEMI? –
Built as a tribute to the original T/A and to celebrate Mopar’s 85th anniversary, this custom Challenger T/A featured several upgrades that take performance to the next level. The most notable was the HELLCrate Redeye 6.2L Supercharged Crate HEMI® engine and engine kit, which produces a whopping 807 horsepower and 717 lb.-ft. of torque on 91-octane pump gas.
Possessed By The Demon –
This engine is a significant upgrade over the standard HELLCrate engine, with a larger supercharger, increased boost pressure, and a higher rpm limit. It also features a forged alloy steel crankshaft, induction-hardened crank bearing surfaces, a 5150 alloy gun-drilled camshaft, and forged high-strength alloy pistons, among other upgrades.
Extra Performance Goodies –
But the upgrades don’t stop there! This Challenger T/A Tribute also features a Moser Dana 60 rear axle with 3.54:1 gears, TTI headers, and a Magnum Force Transformer K-Member and front suspension. In addition, the American Powertrain 5-speed manual transmission is mated to a Centerforce dual-disc clutch, providing precise control over all that power.
Classic 1970’s Looks –
The car’s exterior is just as impressive, with a PPG Vitamin C Orange paint job and custom T/A graphics from Phoenix Graphix. The T/A-style exhaust with megaphone tips by Classic Industries gives the car an aggressive sound, while the G60-15 Goodyear Polyglas rear tires and E60-15 Goodyear Polyglas front tires provide plenty of traction.
Inside, the car features an original-style interior with parts from Classic Industries, maintaining the classic look and feel of the original Challenger T/A.
The result of these upgrades is a car that pays homage to the past while pushing the limits of modern performance. Mark Worman and his Graveyard Carz team did an excellent job of creating a tribute to the original Challenger T/A, showcasing Mopar’s best. With its 807 horsepower, this Challenger T/A will turn heads and leave a lasting impression wherever it goes.
