This year the Jeep® brand celebrates its 80th Anniversary of the four-wheel-drive (4×4) experience. While the brand has racked up the awards recently with vehicles like the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the iconic Jeep Wrangler, and the new Jeep Gladiator, on the other side of the pond the new electrified Jeep Renegade 4xe lineup continues to gain praise from the European automotive press.
This past week the Renegade 4xe joined the Wrangler in taking home awards from the United Kingdom’s 4×4 Magazine and their annual “4×4 of the Year” awards.
The Wrangler once again took home the magazine’s “Off-Road Award”, a special category that concentrates solely on a vehicle’s off-road performance. The expert judges praised the Wrangler for its purity, as well as its ability to drive across Africa or just the potholed-ridden M25 in London.
The Renegade 4xe took home the award for the “Best Small SUV” with the judges recognizing the new plug-in hybrid variant of Jeep’s smallest offering being the reason it set itself apart from the tough competition in the category.
Each year, a panel of experts from 4×4 Magazine, one of the world’s most renowned 4×4 specialist publications, tests a large number of 4×4 vehicles from the world’s manufacturers. The experts score the vehicles for their on-road driving features, and then take them on a tough off-road evaluation course before delivering their verdicts across a number of classes that include Small, Medium, and Large SUV, Performance SUV, and Best Off-Roader. Special awards include Best Value, Off-Road Award, and 4×4 Manufacturer of the Year.
