Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling approximately 9,433 units of its 2023 to 2024 Jeep® Grand Cherokee (WL74) and Grand Cherokee L (WL75) vehicles. According to the recall, when the master headlight switch is set to the AUTO position, the driver may be unable to activate the high beams quickly. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108 requirements, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.”
Some of the above vehicles may not be equipped with the Auto High Beam Headlamp Control feature and may not turn on the high beam headlamps when requested if the master lighting switch is set to the AUTO headlamp position. If the master lighting switch is set to the auto position, activation of the high beams requires turning the master lighting switch to “ON” and then toggling the stalk. The inability to conveniently activate high beam headlights may result in reduced visibility for the driver, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.
The two-row Grand Cherokee suspect period began on May 3, 2023, when the first vehicle built with suspect vehicle configuration parameters was produced, and ended on January 10, 2024.The three-row Grand Cherokee L suspect period began on May 9, 2023, when the first vehicle built with suspect vehicle configuration parameters was produced, and ended on January 10, 2024, when updated vehicle configuration parameters were implemented in vehicle production.
The suspect period was determined using vehicle production records.
The recall affects approximately 7,467 two-row Grand Cherokees and 1,966 three-row Grand Cherokee Ls.
Recall Chronology –
- On December 20, 2023, FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization was notified of a potential vehicle configuration issue on certain vehicles related to activating high beams, potentially not in compliance with FMVSS No. 108.
- From December 2023 through January 2024, FCA US TSRC conducted an analysis of 2024 MY Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L field records and determined that the affected vehicles may have been built with a configuration issue related to activating high beams, which may not be in compliance with FMVSS No. 108.
- On January 31, 2024, FCA US TSRC recognized a vehicle configuration issue on certain vehicles related to activating high beams, potentially not in compliance with FMVSS No. 108.
- On February 15, 2024, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.
Dealers will reconfigure the vehicle high beam parameters, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on April 12, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA’s number for this recall is 12B.
