For the past several years, we have covered thefts of high-performance Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, and Ram vehicles time and time again. From stealing a pre-production model, to a smash and grab off dealer showrooms, to being stolen out holding lots outside the assembly plants, it seems HEMI-powered vehicles are not safe from thieves.
We have showcased several different ways that the manufacturer, the aftermarket, and even YouTubers are doing to protect their vehicles from being stolen.
Thefts don’t care who they steal from. From the average working man, large-scale businesses, or even celebrities aren’t safe from having criminals trying to jack their rides, to either joyride around in, try to sell outside of the state they stole them from for pennies on the dollar, or take to a local chop shop to be cut up and sold for parts.
But this past weekend, well-known automotive celebrity Cristy Lee had her Dodge Challenger SRT HELLCAT stolen right out of her driveway. It didn’t matter that she lived an hour north of Detroit, thieves still found her car outside her home and within seconds broke out the passenger window, reprogrammed a key fob, and drove off down the street.
Unfortunately for Cristy, she was out of town at the time and happened to watch the entire event on her home’s security camera. “SOMEONE STOLE MY F#$%ING HELLCAT 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡,” she posted to her personal Instagram page with a clip of thieves driving away with her car.
“…it’s just a car that can be replaced, and I’m so grateful this wasn’t something scarier like a home invasion…,” she continued to post in the comments. “What really sucks though, and I’m sure some of you think this car was given to me, but I work my ass off, and I don’t spend a lot of money on myself ever,” she continued. “.it really sucks having something you worked so hard for to buy taken away at the blink of an eye. I know I’m NOT ALONE feeling this way either…. I’ve always placed a high value on the PEOPLE I LOVE over the THINGS I HAVE, and this is an invaluable reminder of that ❤️.”
As the prices for HEMI cars continue to climb, thefts are becoming even more common than usual. Let this be a warning to be sure to take precautions to protect your rides. It only takes a few seconds for someone to take off with your vehicle and now with the current age of HEMI engines coming to an end, it’s not like you will just be able to replace your HEMI car with another one.
