Recall: 2018 – 2019 Jeep® Wrangler (JL) Models For Improper Welds:

18,055 Jeep Wrangler (JL)s Are Effected...

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has issued a recall for certain 2018 to 2019 Jeep® Wrangler (JL) models, due to improper welds on the front track bar.

Some of the above vehicles may have been built with a front track bar bracket weld located off the seam potentially resulting in the bracket separating from the frame. The separation of the front track bar bracket from the frame may cause a reduction in the steering response, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.

According to an official FCA document to the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), states the following…

Some 2018-2019 MY Jeep Wrangler left hand drive vehicles may have been built with a front track bar bracket with an out-of-specification weld, which could potentially result in the bracket separating from the frame.

The suspect period began at Toledo North Assembly Plant on May 7, 2018, when the parts with an off seam weld location were introduced into production, to August 21, 2018, when the suspect parts were no longer used in production. Supplier production records were used along with traceability information to identify the suspect period.

Similar vehicles not included in the recall were manufactured before or after the period when the parts with a weld off seam were used in production, and have front track bar brackets with complete and correctly applied welds.

FCA US will conduct a Voluntary Safety Recall on all affected vehicles to inspect and repair the front track bar bracket welds as needed. FCA US has a longstanding policy and practice of reimbursing owners who have incurred the cost of repairing a problem that subsequently becomes the subject of a field action. To ensure consistency, FCA US, as part of the owner letter, will request that customers send the original receipt and/or
other adequate proof of payment to the company for confirmation of the expense.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
