Ram Will Introduce The Brazilian Market To The Ram 1500 Classic, Later This Year!

The Fourth-Generation 1/2-Ton Will Be Available In Two Trim Levels...

It seems like we have been talking a lot about the Brazilian market lately. But the Stellantis Latin America (LATAM) team has been busy and dominating the region. One of the brands that have been getting a lot of attention, is the Ram Truck brand.

For a number of years, the Ram brand only offered its 3/4-ton Ram 2500 Laramie (DJ) as the sole offering for most of the LATAM region. However, in recent years, Ram has continued to grow its portfolio of full-size trucks in places like Brazil. In December 2020, Ram Brazil introduced the Ram 1500 Rebel (DT) to its lineup. After a number of special edition Ram 2500 models, Ram Brazil launched the Ram 3500 (D2) in both Laramie and the luxury-oriented Limited Longhorn trim levels.

Now the brand will be releasing yet another model, looking to continue to grow within the pickup-loving Brazilian marketplace.

In February, thanks to our friend Marlos Ney Vidal of the Brazilian automotive site Autos Segredos (Auto Secrets), we showed you some interesting photos of two Ram 1500 Classic (DS) models wearing full camouflage and testing on Brazilian public roads. Many of the countries within the LATAM region are continuing to sell Mexican-built Ram 1500 Classic models, we thought the two trucks might be testing in Brazil since many of the company’s LATAM region operations are centered there. But every time we have seen something from Stellantis in camouflage testing in Brazil, it has ended up coming to the Brazilian market within months.

Well, it appears that Ram will continue the trend as Autos Segredos is now reporting that the Ram 1500 Classic will be introduced to the market later this year.

According to the report, the Ram 1500 Classic will be available in two trim levels (R/T and Laramie). In Mexico, where the export Ram 1500 Classic models are manufactured, Ram continues to sell a more budget-friendly sport pickup using the R/T nameplate. We have talked in depth about that trim before. Since then, however, the R/T nameplate has been changed to HEMI Sport.

The Ram 1500 Classic Laramie, offers entry-level luxury options at a budget-friendly price. Laramie models typically have standard equipment such as Dual-Zone Automatic Temperature Controls, Leather Heated and Ventilated 40/20/40 Bench Seat, Deluxe Door Trim Panels, Power Adjustable Pedals, Bi-Functional Projector Headlamps, Premium LED Tail Lamps, Chrome “R-A-M” Grille with Snorkels, Chrome Exterior Accents, and an 8.4-inch Uconnect 4C Touchscreen Display. Most of the export Laramie trucks, come with 20-inch wheels from the older North American-spec Big Horn models. We expect those options to continue on the Brazilian model.

The Ram 1500 Classic will definitely open the Ram Truck brand to a lot more Brazilians, who thought owning a full-sized Ram 1500 was simply out of their budget. We will continue to cover the introduction of the Ram 1500 Classic in Brazil, as more details become available.

More good Ram news. As a supporting addendum to my comments yesterday on Ram compact and mid-size pickups in the LATAM market where, it is hinted,Ram will be presenting itself as a “luxury” brand going forward. This policy seems to be smart. Rather than simply Fiat rebadged as Ram trucks, the next generation smaller Rams will be wider, longer, more capable and more well appointed than Fiat and positioned to give a distinctive premium credential to the Ram brand. This formula may also, as I speculated, give credibility to importing a North American spin off in the compact truck segment at a minimum investment for Ram NA. Seems Ram is benefiting from Jeeps coat tails in the LATAM market. Indeed, good news.
