Stellantis Sells Marysville Mopar Site Amid Michigan Mega Hub Plans

Automaker Advances $30 Million Consolidation Project

Stellantis has finalized the sale of its Mopar Distribution Center in Marysville, Michigan, as part of its ongoing consolidation strategy. The facility, which played a key role in Mopar operations and Chrysler’s historic engine production, will continue functioning under a leaseback agreement until a new centralized hub is completed.

According to Stellantis Safety, Manufacturing and Corporate Communications person Frank Matyok, the move aligns with the company’s 2023 United Auto Workers (UAW) collective bargaining agreement. “Stellantis is progressing with its Mopar consolidation plans as outlined in the 2023 UAW collective bargaining agreement. The sale of the Mopar facility in Marysville, Michigan, finalized in January with a leaseback agreement, ensures operations and employment for the approximately 240 UAW-represented employees will continue uninterrupted until a new facility is completed,” Matyok stated.

The automaker did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction but reaffirmed its commitment to keeping workers employed during the transition. This sale follows a similar move with Stellantis’ Mopar site in Center Line, Michigan, where a leaseback deal was also established, allowing 500 UAW workers to remain on-site.

Stellantis is currently in discussions about constructing a state-of-the-art Mopar Mega Hub in Michigan. “While discussions about a Mopar Mega Hub in Michigan are ongoing, the future site will be state of the art with new technology and innovation, a very safe and modern working environment for our employees that will be operationally carbon net zero, consistent with our Dare Forward objectives to deliver cleaner, more environmentally responsible operations,” the company stated.

Currently, Stellantis is evaluating property across from the idled Ford Romeo Engine Plant in Romeo, Michigan, as the potential site for the new Mopar Michigan Mega Hub. This project is part of a $30 million investment aimed at consolidating aging distribution centers in the Detroit area. The 230-acre site was previously a golf course and farmland.

The Marysville Mopar site holds significant historical importance. It previously served as a hub for Chrysler’s Marine/Industrial Division and was the home of the legendary 426 HEMI® V8 engine. While the transition to a centralized facility is in progress, Stellantis assures that employees will not face immediate disruptions.

Spokespeople for the UAW have been asked for comment, and Stellantis has committed to providing further details as plans for its consolidated distribution center move forward.
