Stellantis Reports Data Breach at Third-Party Provider

Automaker Alerts North American Customers After Security Incident

Stellantis has confirmed that it recently detected unauthorized access to a third-party service provider that supports its North American customer service operations. The company emphasized that the breach was limited in scope, affecting only basic contact details, including names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails. Importantly, Stellantis said no financial information or sensitive personal data was exposed.

According to the automaker, the breach was discovered during ongoing security monitoring. Once identified, Stellantis immediately activated its incident response plan, launched an investigation, and took steps to contain the issue. Federal authorities have been notified, and affected customers are being contacted directly.

While the company has not disclosed the number of customers impacted, Stellantis emphasized that its internal systems remain secure and unaffected. Still, it is urging customers to stay alert for potential phishing attempts. “We encourage customers to avoid clicking suspicious links or sharing personal details in response to unexpected emails, texts, or calls,” Stellantis stated.

The incident highlights a growing challenge for automakers worldwide. With vehicles and customer systems increasingly reliant on digital platforms, carmakers have become prime targets for cybercriminals. Earlier this month, Jaguar Land Rover reported that a cyberattack severely disrupted its global retail and production operations, forcing factory shutdowns until September 24th.

For Stellantis, protecting customer trust is critical. As the parent company of brands like Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, and Ram, the automaker said safeguarding customer data remains a top priority. While this particular breach was limited to contact information, it serves as another reminder that even indirect vendors can pose risks when handling customer data.

Stellantis has provided reassurance that it is tightening oversight of third-party providers and strengthening cybersecurity defenses across its network. For now, customers are advised to remain cautious, verify all communications, and contact Stellantis through official channels if in doubt.
