Stellantis Patents Innovative Rooftop Tent Design for Jeep®
New Tent Design Offers Direct Access Through Removable Roof Panels

Stellantis has filed a patent for a groundbreaking rooftop tent design specifically tailored for the Jeep® Wrangler. Unlike traditional rooftop tents that require bulky roof racks and add significant weight and height, this new design attaches directly to the vehicle’s roof, utilizing existing removable roof panel openings.

The tent features a base that rests directly on the roof, with connection points aligning perfectly with the mounting locations of the removed roof panels. This clever integration allows campers to access the tent from inside the vehicle, eliminating the need to exit the vehicle to climb into the tent. This is especially advantageous during inclement weather.
When stowed, the tent’s cover securely encloses its walls and other components, creating a low-profile, aerodynamic shape. This design helps maintain fuel efficiency and vehicle stability by reducing drag and keeping the vehicle’s center of gravity lower.

Once deployed, the tent expands upward with tent walls connecting the base to the cover, creating a comfortable, weather-protected sleeping area. An optional awning can also deploy from the tent’s base or cover, providing shade and shelter outside the vehicle.
In addition to its innovative mounting and deployment features, the tent includes an electrical system that can connect to the vehicle’s energy storage or its own independent power source. This system can power both vehicle and tent accessories, enhancing the camping experience with conveniences like lighting, charging ports, and climate control.

The patent also details a cantilevered floor that extends beyond the roof’s edge, offering additional space without requiring a larger vehicle footprint. This thoughtful design ensures that Jeep owners can enjoy overlanding adventures without compromising performance or comfort.
Stellantis’ new rooftop tent design could revolutionize vehicle-based camping, providing Jeep enthusiasts with a seamless and highly functional solution for off-road adventures. While there’s no official word on production yet, this patent hints at exciting possibilities for the future of Jeep accessories.
