Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) has announced a voluntary recall of approximately 63,082 Jeep® Cherokee (KL) models from 2017 to 2019. The recall addresses a potential defect in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU), a critical drivetrain component, which could result in the loss of drive power or park functionality.
The issue is linked to an improperly seated input shaft snap ring in the PTU. This flaw could allow uncontrolled movement of the input shaft, leading to damage in key components such as the range shift sleeve, splines, and range fork. These failures could cause the vehicle to lose motive power or its ability to stay in park, increasing the risk of accidents or injury.
What Are the Warning Signs? –
Affected owners might notice a “Service 4WD” message on the dashboard, along with unusual noise, vibration, or changes in drive quality.
