The Ram 1500, a crucial offering for the Ram brand and Stellantis’ top-selling vehicle in North America is preparing for its initial mid-cycle action (MCA) or refresh. As part of this refresh, Ram will introduce two distinct variations for the Ram 1500, catering to different preferences. One variant will showcase the brand’s new electrified REV model, while the other will feature the tried-and-true internal combustion engines (ICEs).
Ram has recently unveiled its electrified Ram 1500 REV pickup, showcasing a range of distinctive styling elements. Meanwhile, the ICE model is set to undergo an evolutionary design update. Insider sources suggest that the upcoming Ram 1500 ICE will feature a fresh headlamp design, drawing inspiration from the current Limited model. The new headlight design will include thicker LED daytime running lights (DRLs) with turn signal switchback technology for enhanced visibility.
Additionally, the grille will undergo significant changes, growing larger to facilitate improved cooling for the new twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter Hurricane6 inline-six-cylinder engines. Positioned higher on the grille, the “R-A-M” text will receive an update, and slight modifications to the front bumper will accompany these changes. These exciting updates were teased during the Stellantis EV Day 2021 presentation.
The side profile of the upcoming Ram 1500 closely resembles the current model, with the iconic 1500 badge prominently displayed on the hood and retaining its distinct fender flares. However, one notable update is the addition of the new towing mirrors, which were first introduced in the 2023 Ram Heavy Duty pickups. These advanced towing mirrors will be available as an optional feature for the Ram 1500, enhancing its towing capabilities and further improving its functionality.
At the rear, the truck will maintain a consistent appearance, with the RAM’s head logo positioned at the center of the tailgate on most models. The ICE model will retain its current design, while the Ram REV models will showcase the new R-A-M text that was featured on the show truck in New York.
The rear of the truck will exhibit a more streamlined aesthetic for the ICE model, characterized by stylish red LED taillamps and a single white LED light positioned in the center of the housing. For the Hurricane6 models, dual exhaust outlets will be integrated beneath the rear bumper, just like the existing HEMI® models. The RamBox® and the multifunction tailgate will remain unaltered.
In line with the advancements seen in the Ram 1500 REV, the updated Ram 1500 ICE model interior will also undergo a significant overhaul. This revamped interior combines luxurious elements with state-of-the-art technology, setting a new standard for the segment.
The centerpiece of the interior is the Uconnect 5 system, now equipped with an impressive 14.5-inch touchscreen. This large display provides intuitive control over various vehicle functions and infotainment features. Complementing the touchscreen is a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster that delivers crisp and customizable vehicle information. In a segment-first move, the Ram 1500 ICE will feature a spacious 10.25-inch passenger screen, allowing passengers to access entertainment and navigation options.
The inclusion of a digital rearview mirror enhances visibility and safety, while the Head-up Display (HUD) projects important information directly onto the windshield. The optional 23-speaker Klipsch Reference Premiere audio system ensures an immersive and high-fidelity sound experience for audiophiles.
Furthermore, the vehicle will boast a newly designed push-button trailer steering knob, granting users effortless control over their trailers. Complementing these features is an accessory switch bank strategically positioned with buttons on the touchscreen and off-screen below. This setup ensures easy access and operation of additional accessories. Collectively, these enhancements elevate the technological prowess of the Ram 1500, enhancing its overall performance and user experience.
The Ram 1500 ICE is set to introduce the highly anticipated ultra-premium Tungsten model. This new variant will boast an exquisite Indigo/Sea Salt interior designed to impress. The interior will be adorned with platinum patina/semi-bright dual-textured metal accents featuring diamond knurling for added sophistication. As for the seating, both the driver and front passenger will be treated to the utmost comfort with heated, ventilated, and premium quilted leather upholstery. These luxurious seats will offer extensive adjustments, including 24-way power settings, memory functions, a revitalizing massage feature, power lumbar support, and four-way powered headrests.
The forthcoming Ram 1500 ICE model refresh promises several notable updates while retaining the truck’s iconic design elements. With enhancements to the exterior, interior, and technological features, the refreshed Ram 1500 ICE aims to offer an improved driving experience for customers.
The highly anticipated debut of the updated Ram 1500 is expected later this year, most likely at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, a stone’s throw away from the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP), which produces the Ram 1500. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting release.
