The 2021 Ram 1500 TRX Has Been Named MotorTrend Truck of the Year® Title:

Ram's Performance Off-Roader Will Be Featured In February's Issue...

For a record third consecutive year, MotorTrend has given its coveted Truck of the Year® title to the Ram Truck brand. Starting with the launch of the all-new fifth-generation Ram 1500 in 2019, Ram Trucks has dominated the MotorTrend Truck of the Year awards with its revised pickup lineup. The refreshed fourth-generation Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty lineup took top honors in 2020 and is now handing the reigns over to the new 2021 Ram 1500 TRX performance off-roader.

Since separating from the Dodge brand in 2009, the Ram Truck brand has won the Truck of the Year title six times. Those wins have included…

  • 2010 – Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty
  • 2013 – Ram 1500
  • 2014 – Ram 1500 EcoDiesel
  • 2019 – Ram 1500
  • 2020 – Ram 2500/3500 Heavy Duty
  • 2021 – Ram 1500 TRX

“The all-new 2021 Ram 1500 TRX sets the benchmark for extreme performance pickup trucks and clearly telegraphs the Ram Truck brand’s leadership in the segment,” said Mike Koval Jr., Head of Ram Brand. “In a brutally competitive truck market, earning MotorTrend’s Truck of the Year title for three consecutive years is not only incredibly humbling, but it reaffirms the fact that we have the best light- and heavy-duty trucks on the road today.”

“Never before has a brand won Car, Truck, or SUV of the Year in three consecutive years,” said MotorTrend Editor-in-Chief Mark Rechtin. “Winning this three-peat speaks to the excellence of the Ram pickup truck platform and the lengths their engineers and designers go to make it so dominant.”

The MotorTrend “Of the Year” award recognizes the best vehicles representing exceptional value, superiority in their classes, and impact on the automotive scene. The title is one of the most coveted awards in the automotive industry. In order to be available for the award, a vehicle must be all-new or substantially upgraded for that model year. MotorTrend then puts each vehicle through a series of performance tests, to evaluate every aspect of that vehicle. All vehicles are then evaluated on three different courses at the professional automotive test centers.

Judges then determine which vehicles will be given “Of the Year” titles. The winners are chosen based on six of MotorTrend’s criteria including design, engineering excellence, efficiency, safety, the performance of the intended function, and value.

The full rundown of the testing will be highlighted in the February 2021 issue of MotorTrend magazine.

Well deserved.

Also note the Ford HD was in this year's comparison including the Tremor. MT noted that they didn't think the Ford HD would have beat the 2020 Ram HD last year for TOTY either.

Over on TruckTrend, 2020 Ford HD won last year only because Ram HD couldn't send them the right truck (supposedly). They ended up with only a crew cab 8' bed Ram 3500
