Stellantis Is Slowing Down Production At Mirafiori Assembly

Demand For 500e & Key Maserati Products Are Down, Forcing The Plant To Move To One Shift...

Stellantis is slowing down operations at its Mirafiori Assembly Plant in Turin, Italy. The slowdown will last until the end of March, with some workers being put on temporary leave. Instead of the usual two shifts, the plant will only have one shift per day, except for today, February 12th when the plant will be completely closed.

Mirafiori is renowned for being the production hub of four Maserati models: the popular Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans, the stylish GranTurismo, and the robust Levante SUV. While the smaller Grecale crossover finds its home at the Cassino factory in the Lazio region, and the MC20 is meticulously assembled in Modena, the Mirafiori facility remains a pivotal cog in Stellantis’ production wheel.

Around 2,250 workers will be affected by this slowdown, with about 300-350 people on temporary leave each week. Some workers will be moved to other parts of the plant temporarily.

Italy recently announced a plan to encourage people to buy cleaner vehicles, including subsidies for electric cars. However, Stellantis’ CEO Carlos Tavares mentioned that the lack of government support so far has made things tough for plants like Mirafiori. On the other side of the aisle, prominent Italians are calling for Stellantis to build more products in the region.

The Mirafiori facility has faced numerous halts in production over the past year. While the Fiat 500e just launched in the U.S., the Levante recently made the top-10 list of the slowest-selling vehicles in the U.S., according to data from CarEdge.com.
