RAM Introduces Its 2022 Ram ProMaster City Commercial Van Lineup!
More Standard Features, Less Trims To Choose From...
As the 2022 Ram ProMaster full-size commercial van comes into the new model with a number of changes, its smaller sibling the Ram ProMaster City continues on mostly unchanged. But there are some important changes to the compact Class 1 work van for 2022, nonetheless.
Starting with a more simplified lineup, RAM has discontinued the Tradesman and SLT trim levels in favor of just one package. A customer can now just choose or order a 2022 Ram ProMaster City in either a two-seat Cargo Van or a five-seat Passenger Wagon configuration. The Cargo Van models are available with panel, or glass windows, or a combination of both depending on the customer’s needs. The Passenger Wagon offers standard rear and side windows.
Designed and engineered to tackle bigger jobs, the 2022 Ram ProMaster City offers a cargo area width of 60.4 inches, a cargo-area height of 51.8 inches, and a low step-in height of 21.5 inches. That is a best-in-class cargo volume of 131.7 cubic feet. Payload capacity is also best-in-class with a rating of 1,890 lbs. for the Cargo Van and 1,720 lbs for the Passenger Wagon.
RAM has given the Ram ProMaster City, more upscale looks, technology, and standard equipment for 2022. This includes ditching the cheap-looking blackish-gray front fascia in favor of a body-color one on all models. That alone improves the looks of the ProMaster City on the street. There is also the addition of standard daytime running lights, backup sensors, cruise control, and driver manual height and lumbar adjustments.
While it may still lag behind some of the competition when it comes to styling and technology features, the ProMaster City continues to be the best bargain in the segment. RAM takes pride in ProMaster City’s total cost of ownership being the lowest in its class.
Under the hood of the ProMaster City, is the 2.4-liter Tigershark inline-four-cylinder delivering 178 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of torque. The Tigershark is mated to a fuel-efficient 9-speed automatic transmission. This enables the ProMaster City to have a 21 MPG city / 24 MPG combined / 28 MPG highway fuel economy rating. Unlike some of its competition, the ProMaster City can be run on 87-octane unleaded fuel.
The 2022 Ram ProMaster City is offered in 7 exterior colors for the 2022 model year. Those colors include Black Metallic, Blue Night Metallic, Bright Red, Bright White, Deep Red Metallic, Quartz Gray Metallic, and Silver Metallic finishes.
A new ProMaster City is due to hit the market sometime in 2023. It is expected that the next-generation Ram ProMaster City will continue to share a lot of its components and styling with the successful European Fiat Doblo commercial van. It is expected that the Doblo will introduce an all battery-electric (BEV) version in 2024, we expect the next-generation Ram ProMaster City to also adopt the electrified powertrain.
Until then, the Ram ProMaster City will solider on being the best “bang for the buck” option for small business owners in the North American market.
