A lot of our American readers have been writing us and asking why do their neighbors to the North in Canada, get the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 Sport and they don’t. While the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 does offer monochromatic appearance packages on Tradesman, Big Horn, and Laramie that are called Sport packages, the 4th generation Ram 1500 most sold package in Canada was the Ram 1500 Sport. Ram decided to spearhead the gap, by offering a package exclusively for Canadian, which has proved successful thus far.
Now, Canada gets another exclusive trim level on the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 filling in another popular Canadian trim that was discontinued when the 2019 Ram 1500 showed up to market. Enter the 2019 Ram 1500 SXT trim level.
The Ram 1500 SXT is the value package for those who still don’t need the equipment Ram 1500 Big Horn, but want more than the standard Tradesman package.
Compared to the Tradesman, the SXT package offers a cloth 40/20/40 bench front seat, 18-inch aluminum wheels, Chrome Appearance Package, and your choice of a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with eTorque or a 5.7-liter HEMI V8. That’s right, no HEMI eTorque option. The Pentastar can be had with a 3.21 or a 3.55 rear axle ratio. The HEMI comes with either a 3.21 or a 3.92 rear axle ratio.
The Ram 1500 SXT has a very limited range of options available. For example, the Bed Utility Group, Trailer Tow Group and the Tradesman Group (Class IV hitch and Spray-In Bedliner) are the only equipment packages available.
No 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen option here. Only the Uconnect 3 5.0-inch touchscreen display infotainment system is available. A single disc CD player is optional.
SXT also can be optioned with the following options, rear wheelhouse liners, LED bed lighting, electronic trailer brake controller, Class IV hitch, tri-fold tonneau cover, front and rear all-weather floor mats and black tubular side steps.
A couple of other options are available on the mechanical end of the Ram 1500 SXT. Those options are a 27.4 gallon (or a 124-liter) fuel tank, anti-spin differential rear axle, electronic locking rear differential, and four-corner air suspension.
So before we start getting more e-mails about how it isn’t fair that Ram has introduced another exclusive trim level for Canadian, no need to worry Americans you can purchase a very similar package. The Tradesman Chrome Appearance Package equipped with the Level 1 Equipment Group. The only real big difference in the Ram 1500 SXT versus the American Ram 1500 Tradesman Chrome is that the Ram 1500 Tradesman in both Crew Cab and Quad Cab 4×2 only get the choice of a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with eTorque, while the Ram 1500 SXT has optional HEMI power in those configurations.
It allows the Canadian Ram buyers another value package for the 2019 Ram 1500 in a gap that was left by last year’s successful lineup. The 2019 Ram 1500 SXT Quad Cab 4×4 with 3.6-liter Pentastar power starts at CAD 46,385, which is $1,295 more than the starting price for the Tradesman of the same configuration (2019 Ram 1500 Tradesman starting price of CAD 45,090).
