Under the hood, the customer can choose from two different engine options. One is the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 rated at 295 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque. The Pentastar is mated to an 850RE 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission and is capable of towing up to 6,200 lbs. in both two-wheel-drive (4×2) or all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations. For those who are looking for more power, the optional 5.7-liter HEMI V8 doesn’t disappoint. The HEMI produces a best-in-class 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque and is mated to an 8HP70 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Durango Citadel models with the HEMI V8 are capable of towing 7,400 lbs. in both 4×2 or AWD configurations.
If you think the luxury aspect of the Durango Citadel takes away from the performance, think again. The Durango Citadel comes with the same ‘Sport’ mode found on the GT and R/T models and allows the customer to have increased vehicle performance capability over Auto mode. Sport mode tightens up suspension damping and increased steering gradient feel for improved cornering capability and steering response feedback. In addition, AWD is set to 35/65 distribution for increased performance. Shift speed also increases from Auto mode while electronic stability control (ESC) allows more yaw for spirited driving.
While its not an SRT model, the Pentastar V6-powered Citadel can run a 0 to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds and can complete the 1/4-mile in 15.7 seconds. For Durango Citadel models with the HEMI, are capable of 0 to 60 mph in 6.2 seconds and cutting a full second off of its 1/4-mile with a 14.7 seconds pass. Both powertrains have a top speed electronically limited to 118 mph.
The 2021 Dodge Durango Citadel has a U.S. Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $47,805 for 4×2 and $50,405 for AWD models.
