One-of-One 1969 HEMI® Charger 500 Set for Mecum Auction

Only White and Red HEMI Charger 500 Known to Exist Crossing the Block July 26th

When it comes to legendary Mopar muscle, it doesn’t get much more serious than this. Crossing the block at Mecum Harrisburg 2025 on Saturday, July 26th, is one of the rarest aero cars Chrysler ever built — a 1969 Dodge HEMI® Charger 500, and not just any version. This is a factory J-Code HEMI car, 1 of only 67 produced, and the only known example finished in White with a Red interior, according to the Chrysler Registry.

This particular Charger 500 has been meticulously restored by the well-known Julius Steuer, a name that carries serious weight in the Mopar restoration world. It still retains its original fender tag, which helps verify its authenticity and rare options.

Under the hood sits the legendary 7.0-liter (426 cubic-inch) HEMI® V8, packing a factory-rated 425 horsepower. This beast features the correct hemispherical combustion chamber heads, an original intake manifold, and dual 4-barrel carburetors — everything that made the Street HEMI such a feared competitor on the street and strip. Power is sent to the rear via a TorqueFlite automatic transmission and a Super Performance Axle Package (A32) with 4.10 gears, perfect for brutal acceleration.

Built as part of the Charger 500 (A11) program, Dodge created these cars to fix the aerodynamic issues of the standard Charger for NASCAR competition. They featured a flush-mounted Coronet grille and a smoothed-out rear window — critical changes aimed at helping the Charger cut through the air more efficiently on high-speed ovals.

This example also features painted steel wheels, power brakes, correct sway bar end links, and original floor pans finished in the right undercoating. Even small details like the rechomed original air cleaner, correct exhaust resonators, and the woodgrain steering wheel (S81) have been faithfully restored. Inside, you’ll also find a Tic-Toc-Tach, a must-have period detail for any serious Mopar collector.

If you’re a fan of ultra-rare, investment-grade Mopar muscle — especially cars that blend street cred with NASCAR roots — this one-of-one HEMI Charger 500 deserves a spot on your radar. It’s rare, it’s real, and it’s ready to cross the auction block.
