Jeep® Pays Homage To Cherokee (SJ) With Its 1978 Cherokee 4xe Concept

Modern Electrified Off-Roader with Vintage Appeal...

Jeep® has always been a brand associated with rugged off-road performance, and the upcoming 57th Annual Easter Jeep Safari promises to deliver on this promise. With the unveiling of several new concept vehicles, the Jeep brand and Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) by Mopar design teams have taken electrified power and commanding performance to the next level.

One of the standout vehicles set to be unveiled is the 1978 Jeep Cherokee 4xe Concept, which pays homage to the original Jeep Cherokee (SJ). The Jeep Cherokee SJ was introduced in 1974 as a sporty, two-door version of the Wagoneer, designed to appeal to younger, more adventurous drivers. The Wide-Track option, which included several upgraded features, was available a year later and proved to be a hit among off-road enthusiasts.

The 1978 Jeep Cherokee 4xe Concept takes inspiration from the original Cherokee SJ and reimagines it with a modern spin. The vehicle began its life as a 1978 Jeep Cherokee, which was heavily modified and blended with a 2022 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 4xe (JL). The result is a unique vehicle that seamlessly fuses the original proportions of the Cherokee with modern technology and electrified power.

The exterior of the vehicle features a bright, unmistakably 1970s-theme multicolor paint scheme that adds to its eye-catching appeal. While it looks similar to a vintage Jeep Cherokee at first glance, the 1978 Jeep Cherokee 4xe Concept has transformed into a modern, electrified, off-road performer.

Under the hood, the vehicle features the advanced Jeep Wrangler 4xe powertrain, which combines two electric motors, a high-voltage battery pack, and a high-tech 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 engine. This unique combination provides an unparalleled on- and off-road experience, making it an ideal vehicle for off-road enthusiasts.

The Jeep 1978 Jeep Cherokee 4xe Concept’s custom interior features low-back bucket seats trimmed in leather. The rear bench seat was replaced with a four-point safety cage, and the rear cargo space houses a full-size spare tire just in case the trail gets a little too wild.

Overall, the 1978 Jeep Cherokee 4xe Concept is a testament to the Jeep brand’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of off-road performance. With its electrified power and modern spin on a classic design, this unique vehicle is sure to turn heads both on and off the trail.
