Jeep's Modern-Take On The Iconic Forward Control...

Back in the heyday of the 1950s to mid-1960s, Jeep® introduced a unique solution to blend maneuverability with utility in its Forward Control or “FC” trucks. Fast forward to 2012, and the iconic off-road brand revived this spirit of innovation with the introduction of the Jeep Mighty FC Concept at the 46th Annual Easter Jeep Safari.

The Concept Genesis: Blending History With Modernity –

To bring the Mighty FC Concept to life, the Jeep design team embarked on a journey that started with a 2012 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (JK). They ingeniously repositioned the cabin over and ahead of the front axle, elongated the wheelbase, and added a custom-built drop-side cargo box. This transformation not only honored the heritage of the original FC but also infused it with contemporary design elements.

Off-Road Prowess: Engineering For Adventure –

Enhancing its off-road capabilities, the Mighty FC Concept incorporated Mopar’s Portal Axle set, providing substantial ground clearance without the need for excessive suspension lift. Paired with King coil-over assemblies, Teraflex control arms, and track bars, this setup ensured superior traction and maneuverability over rugged terrain.

Traction is handled by massive 39×13.50R17 BFGoodrich Krawlers on custom 17-inch Hutchinson Rock Monster beadlocks wheels. Other Jeep Mighty FC highlights included Hanson bumpers, a Warn 16.5 winch, Tom Wood’s custom driveshafts, and a Corsa stainless steel exhaust system.

Bold Design, Inside And Out –

Despite its utilitarian exterior, the Mighty FC Concept boasted an interior that blended functionality with style. The Wrangler-based cabin received a bold makeover with heavy-duty Katzkin leather upholstery and a unique color scheme. The full-width, drop-side tray-style bed offered ample cargo space, while incorporating elements of snowboard-inspired design for a touch of adventure.

Power And Performance –

Under the hood, the Mighty FC Concept was propelled by the award-winning 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, paired with a stock 5-speed automatic transmission and NVG-241OR Rubicon Rock Trac transfer case. This powertrain combination ensured a seamless blend of performance and capability, ready to tackle any off-road challenge with ease.

The Legacy Lives On –

While the Mighty FC Concept remains a testament to Jeep’s commitment to pushing design boundaries, its fate as a production model is unlikely due to crash testing regulations. Nonetheless, it continues to capture the imagination of enthusiasts, showcasing the innovative spirit of the FCA (Stellantis) Product Design Office.
