Several months ago, MoparInsiders.com was the first to show off pictures of the upcoming 2020 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited Sahara EcoDiesel as it was testing near the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan. This has been a product that many diehard Wrangler fans, have been begging for since the introduction of the EcoDiesel motor. While FCA has already stated the EcoDiesel will be showing up in showrooms around the first quarter of 2020, the company will show off the new Wrangler variant at the State Fair of Texas, next month.
FCA has announced that the Wrangler Unlimited EcoDiesel will be shown to the public for the first time, a day before the show starts on Thursday, September 26th. This will also be the first time we get all the details about the new EcoDiesel for the Wrangler, as FCA has given us some details about it for over a year now.
So far, we know that the EcoDiesel will only be available in the Unlimited (four-door) models and will have a standard ZF-sourced 8-speed automatic. According to statements from FCA released at the official debut of the Wrangler (JL) back in November 2017, the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine will be rated at 260 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft. of torque.
According to FCA, it will feature Engine Stop-Start (ESS) as standard equipment. The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel models we drove, however, did not feature ESS technology. The company also stated the engine implements new turbocharger technology with a low-friction bearing designed for low end and transient performance. The upgraded EcoDiesel engine also features low-friction pistons to improve fuel economy, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and provide an enhanced combustion system with new injector nozzle, piston bowl, and glow plug with an integrated combustion pressure sensor to optimize combustion.
We will be announcing more details of the new 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited EcoDiesel on September 26th, so stay tuned.
