According to Jeep, only the Wrangler Unlimited models will offer the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 in its powertrain options. The new version of the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel will be rated at 260 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft of torque. The updated engine will offer Engine Stop-Start (ESS) technology on all EcoDiesel models and will be paired with a ZF sourced 8-speed automatic transmission.

The updated EcoDiesel will implement new turbocharger technology featuring a low-friction bearing, which is designed for low end and transient performance. Low-friction pistons will also help improve fuel economy, while a new injector nozzle design, piston bowl, and glow plug with integrated combustion pressure sensor help to optimize combustion. The EcoDiesel is manufactured by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) owned V.M. Motori, and tuned by FCA US engineers to meet the North American region regulatory requirements.
