In 2006, Chrysler updated its retro-styled PT Cruiser crossover for the first time since its introduction in 2000 as a 2001 model. The update would prove to be the most drastic change for the Dodge Neon-based crossover during its lifespan.
On the exterior, the update included a new front and rear fascia, a new front grille with chrome accents, a new headlamp design, round fog lamps, and a body-color spoiler on the liftgate. Inside, the PT Cruiser got new seat trims and fabric choices. A new instrument panel with larger gauges, flush rotating air vents, and a Chrysler analog clock.
This 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Touring Edition Convertible that recently went up for auction on the popular automotive auction site BringATrailer.com, recently went for $17,000 USD. With only 15,357 miles on the odometer, this Cruiser convertible hardly seemed broken in.
Painted in the beautiful Inferno Red (PRH), the PT Cruiser looks very upscale with its Pastel Pebble Beige cloth interior and Pebble Beige colored power-folding soft top. To help set off the looks a little more were gold pinstripes and a body-colored roll bar. Amenities include air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, and an AM/FM/CD stereo with an in-dash 6-disc CD changer.
Under the hood was a turbocharged 2.4-liter inline-four-cylinder engine delivering 180 horsepower (134 kW) and 210 lb.-ft. (285 N•m) of torque. The engine was good for a fuel economy rating of 19 city/25 highway with the 4-speed automatic transaxle.
In its current state, the Chrysler brand looks to transition to all-electric by 2028. We hope that Chrysler looks back and remembers that the brand’s past products were made up of fun and affordable convertibles, ready to give an exciting open-air experience. Something that the new owner of this PT Cruiser will probably be enjoying.
With that being said, with the lack of new cars on the market and the increasing rising prices. We are surprised at how easy we can find some interesting older Chrysler Group vehicles with extremely low miles for a fraction of the price of today’s vehicles.
