Yesterday, FCA Canada released its third-quarter sales for 2019 with an increase of 19% over the same time last year. The company sold 60,928 units during the three month period.
“Double-digit increases from both the Jeep® and Ram brands demonstrate that we are delivering trucks and SUVs throughout the country that hit the sweet spot of the Canadian market,” said FCA Canada President and CEO Reid Bigland.
Jeep® Brand:
The Jeep® brand sold a total of 20,506 units, up 19% over the same time period the previous year. Leading the way for the brand was the iconic Jeep Wrangler (JL) with 6,904 units sold. The Grand Cherokee was the second best-selling for the brand with 5,705 units, up a whopping 118% over 2018’s third-quarter. The Jeep Cherokee sold 5,021 during the period. Jeep’s Compass model had 1,930 units sold the third-quarter, down 7% compared to 2018. The brand sold 727 Jeep Gladiator pickups during the quarter, while the compact Jeep Renegade, had 219 units leave dealer lots.
Chrysler Brand:
The Chrysler Pacifica minivan led the brand for sales, with 906 of the 983 units sold during the quarter. The Chrysler 300 Series had a massive drop in sales of 79% during the quarter, with only 77 units sold.
Dodge Brand:
The Dodge brand sold 9,506 units during the quarter. Of course, leading the way for the brand was the Dodge Grand Caravan with 6,273 units. The stout Dodge Durango SUV was the second best-selling vehicle for the brand with 2,105 units, up 29%. The Dodge Challenger had a solid month with 496 units, up to 23%. The aging Dodge Journey sold 326 units, down a whopping 76% over the third quarter in 2018. The four-door Dodge Charger had a very disappointing quarter compared to its sales in the U.S., with only 306 units sold, a decrease of 67%.
Ram Brand:
Ram third-quarter sales were up 43% with 29,618 units sold. Ram pickups saw the largest increase with 28,609 units sold, which was an increase of 47% over the same quarter of the prior year. Ram ProMaster sold 845 units during the quarter, however sales were down 29%, while Ram ProMaster City sales were up 55% with 164 units going to new homes.
Alfa Romeo Brand:
The Alfa Romeo brand sold 203 units during the quarter, a decrease of 34% last year. The Stelvio led the way with 140 units sold. The Giulia sedan sold 57 units, which was down 50% over the same time in 2018. The mid-engine 4C only sold 6 units.
FIAT Brand:
The FIAT brand only sold 112 units during the quarter. The sporty 124 Spider led the way for the brand, making up 68 units of the 112 sold. The recently discontinued 500 city car made up 28 of the sales, which was down 60% over the same period last year. The 500X sold 14 units during the quarter, while the 500L only sold 2 units.
