The iconic 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T SE, famously known as the “Black Ghost,” recently made waves at the Mecum Indy auction, selling for a staggering $1,072,500 after fees. Building on the success of this legendary muscle car, Dodge is continuing its “Last Call” tribute in Europe, offering enthusiasts a final opportunity to embrace the HEMI motorization on Chargers and Challengers.
As part of this tribute, Dodge is set to launch the Dodge Challenger Black Ghost in Europe. This special edition pays homage to the historic 1970 Challenger Black Ghost and features an exclusive black-and-chrome appearance. It is the second model in the European edition of the “Last Call” series, following the introduction of the Dodge Challenger Shakedown in March 2023.
The limited-edition vehicles in the Last Call series provide a unique chance for fans of the brand to own an exclusive model and become part of the iconic Last Call generation. Dodge has planned a revised version of seven iconic models, five of which are marketed in Europe. The release of these special editions aims to celebrate the Charger and Challenger HEMI models, as they will no longer be produced in their current form starting in 2024, aligning with Dodge’s electrification path.
“There are so many legendary muscle cars in Dodge brand history, it was hard to choose the seven vehicles we wanted to pay homage to with our Last Call lineup, but the Black Ghost was an easy pick,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge CEO.
The Dodge Challenger Black Ghost draws inspiration from the legendary black 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T SE owned by Godfrey Qualls. This muscle car gained a legendary reputation through its involvement in underground street racing in Detroit. The 2023 Dodge Challenger Black Ghost is a modern revival of this iconic vehicle, featuring a black-and-chrome exterior, including unique black “gator skin” roof vinyl graphics reminiscent of the original. Under the hood, it boasts a Challenger SRT HELLCAT Redeye Widebody, generating an impressive 807 horsepower.
The model stays true to the spirit of the original Dodge Black Ghost, incorporating elements such as 20-inch x 11-inch Satin Carbon Warp Speed wheels, a Black Ghost interior instrument panel badge, black Mopar hood pins, and a black 6-piston Brembo brake system. It also showcases the Challenger script grille, fender, spoiler badges, and a Midnight Metallic SRT grille badge. The vehicle’s luxurious interior features a bright Dodge fascia badge, an Alcantara steering wheel with a red SRT logo, real carbon fiber bezels and Dynamica suede headliner, and Alcantara/Laguna leather seats and door bolsters.
Dodge plans to produce only 300 units of the Dodge Challenger Black Ghost, all of which will be Challenger SRT HELLCAT Redeye Widebody models in the striking Pitch Black exterior color. Dodge hasn’t said how many of the 300 units will be headed to Europe. This exclusivity ensures that enthusiasts seeking the ultimate Dodge experience can savor the distinctiveness of this special edition.
