Dodge Hornet Tops The U.S. Slowest-Selling Vehicle List Again

Stellantis Has Five Vehicles On The Top-10 List...

Stellantis continues to make headlines for its vehicles, topping the list of slowest-selling vehicles in the U.S. for September 2024. According to data from CarEdge.com, these models are experiencing a significant inventory surplus, which presents a unique opportunity for potential buyers to leverage substantial negotiating power. Here’s a detailed look at the Stellantis vehicles dominating this list and what it means for buyers:

Dodge Hornet –

2024 Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV Blacktop eAWD. (Dodge).

The Dodge Hornet leads the pack of slowest-selling vehicles with an exceptionally high Market Day Supply (MDS) of 428 days. Currently, there are 14,596 units in inventory, but only 1,536 have been sold recently. This extended inventory period gives buyers a strong bargaining position, as dealers may be more inclined to offer discounts to move excess stock.

Jeep® Grand Wagoneer –

2024 Jeep® Grand Wagoneer Series III 4×4. (Jeep).

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer also reports a high MDS of 428 days, matching the Dodge Hornet. With 2,214 units available and only 233 sold in the last 45 days, this model’s significant inventory build-up suggests potential buyers can expect favorable pricing and increased negotiation flexibility.

Maserati Levante –

2024 Maserati Levante V8 Ultima Limited Edition. (Maserati).

The Maserati Levante is another Stellantis model facing a notable inventory surplus. With an MDS of 410 days and 602 units for sale, but only 66 sold recently, this luxury SUV presents a prime opportunity for negotiation. The substantial inventory levels could lead to better deals for prospective buyers.

Maserati Grecale –

2024 Maserati Grecale Trofeo. (Maserati).

The Maserati Grecale is seeing a significant inventory level with an MDS of 370 days. Of 879 units available, only 107 have been sold in the last 45 days. This surplus suggests that buyers may find more attractive pricing, as dealers may be eager to reduce their inventory.

Jeep Grand Wagoneer L –

2024 Jeep® Grand Wagoneer L Series III. (Jeep).

Rounding out the Stellantis models on this list is the Jeep Grand Wagoneer L, which has an MDS of 354 days. With 1,218 units for sale and only 155 sold recently, the extended inventory period indicates that buyers might discover advantageous pricing and better negotiation opportunities.

Implications for Buyers –

Rank Make Model Market Day Supply Total Inventory Units Sold (Last 45 Days)
1 Dodge Hornet 428 days 14,596 units 1,536 units
2 Jeep® Grand Wagoneer 428 days 2,214 units 233 units
3 Mercedes-Benz EQB 427 days 3,546 units 373 units
4 Maserati Levante 410 days 602 units 66 units
5 Lincoln Aviator 392 days 8,153 units 935 units
6 Land Rover Discovery Sport 371 days 2,051 units 249 units
7 Maserati Grecale 370 days 879 units 107 units
8 Mini Hardtop 4-Door 355 days 1,271 units 161 units
9 Jeep® Grand Wagoneer L 354 days 1,218 units 155 units
10 Acura ZDX 340 days 4,132 units 547 units

The high MDS for Stellantis models such as the Dodge Hornet, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Maserati Levante, Maserati Grecale, and Jeep Grand Wagoneer L signifies an oversupply in the market. For buyers, this presents an excellent opportunity to negotiate better deals. Dealers are likely to be more flexible on pricing to reduce their inventory, making it a favorable time to consider purchasing these vehicles.

Understanding MDS can provide buyers with a strategic advantage in the car market. By leveraging knowledge of high inventory levels, buyers can negotiate more effectively and secure better terms, ensuring they do not pay more than necessary.

There is currently a "used" 2024 Hornet R/T Plus with about 1,500km on Autotrader semi-near me that the dealer is lowering the price of nearly every week by about a $1k.

I added it to my saved list on Autotrader and I have received no less than 15 emails from various sales reps from the dealer asking me to come in and take a test drive. At first I didn't think anything of it, but after the 4th email on the same day I took action to stop the emails and save their time, since I'm not interested in buying it. I feel bad for the sales reps with the current lineups.

I was at my local dealer last week to get new parking brake springs for my parent's Caravan, and they had a Hornet and a Compass right next to each other in the showroom, which allowed me the opportunity to sit in them right after each other. If they were priced the same, I would probably still take the Compass, but I am now at an "I don't mind it" opinion for the Hornet, although I still don't like the interior or rear doors of it, and I still think it's way overpriced. Of course a sales rep saw me looking at it and came out to talk to me lol.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV uses the same rear e-axle system as the Hornet, yet it has avoided being on the slow sellers list. Hybrid vehicles are the hottest commodity currently on the market, yet this the Dodge Hornet anchors the slowest selling list.

Stellantis get it together and start cutting your prices at $10K on most vehicles and they will sell. Dodge should discontinue the Hornet al together way worst the 200.

Why each sale is a positive. The changes while ugly are conservative from Tonale and pay for the development and fill a hole in the lineup.

It not like 200 which was an entire plant and over capacity and upside down margins. With the shipping costs at the moment, let them sit.
