Over the recent weekend at the Mecum Las Vegas 2023 auction, automotive enthusiasts witnessed an exciting spectacle as the first pair of 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170s made their way across the auction block.

Boasting a remarkable 1,025 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 945 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,200 rpm from its production HEMI® engine, the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 showcased its incredible acceleration, reaching 60 mph in a mere 1.66 seconds. This high-performance vehicle holds the distinction of achieving the highest G-force acceleration of any production car at an impressive 2.004 gs. Notably, the Demon 170 can also hit 900 horsepower and 810 lb.-ft. of torque when fueled with E10.

Distinguished as a unique Dodge special-edition vehicle, the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 has etched its name as the quickest vehicle ever produced by the brand in its 100-plus-year legacy. It is the first factory production car to conquer the quarter-mile in under nine seconds with an NHRA-certified 8.91-second elapsed time at 151.17 mph. Interestingly, the Demon 170, following in the footsteps of its predecessor, receives an NHRA violation for its sub-nine-second quarter-mile performance on the drag strip, necessitating safety measures like a cage.

The initial Demon 170 to command attention was a sleek Pitch Black model, serialized as Demon 170 No. 801, with a Manufacturer’s Suggest Retail Price (MSRP) of $118,951, as indicated on its window sticker. This particular car, equipped with a Premium Group featuring Black Alcantara / Laguna seats, boasted a range of premium features such as ventilated front seats, suede door trim panels, a suede headliner, and advanced technological amenities. Remarkably, with a mere 13 documented miles on the odometer, this 1,025 horsepower beast found a new owner for an impressive $225,000, or $247,500, after factoring in fees.

The second Demon 170 to grace the auction stage, adorned in TorRed, rolled onto the scene a day later. According to the window sticker, this model, labeled as No. 1153, had an MSRP of $121,341 and shared the same impressive equipment as its black counterpart. Additionally, it featured Demonic Red seat belts and a Satin Black hood graphic. With 18 documented miles, this TorRed Demon found a new home for $210,000, or $231,000 after auction fees, proving the enduring appeal of black cars in the automotive market.

As these remarkable Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170s change hands at auction, their rarity and high performance suggest they may only appreciate, especially as Dodge ventures into electric performance cars with the upcoming launch of the new Dodge Charger Daytona next year.
