SOLD: This HEMI-Powered 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona Went For $1,320,000!

Is The Most Optioned Daytona Known In Existence...

When it comes to some of the most herald Mopar muscle cars, the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona is at the top of the list.

Created to annihilate the competition in the NASCAR Grand National (now Cup Series) during the 1969 season. The “aero warrior” was the first car ever to break the 200 mph barrier on a closed course (Talladega) with a recorded speed of 200.447 mph (322.588 kph) on March 24th, 1970.

In order to meet homologation, Dodge needed to build at least 500 units for the street in order to get the car on the track. Dodge delivered 503 units to dealers (that number is sometimes disputed, but Dodge official says 503 is the number of units produced) in 1969, the car’s only production year.

Of those 503 units, only 70 were produced with the legendary 7.0-liter (426 cubic-inch) HEMI V8 engine. The HEMI was an option behind the 7.2-liter (440 cubic-inch) Magnum V8. In the Daytona, the HEMI was SAE rated to deliver 425 horsepower and 490 lb-ft (664 N⋅m) of torque, but many claimed that it was underrated.

This particular car is one of those cars and went it went across the Mecum Indy auction block. It is also 1 of 22 HEMI Daytona mated to an A833 4-speed manual transmission. But that isn’t what makes this car so unique. This well-documented Daytona is the most optioned version known in existence.
