Ram 1500s With The Multifunction Tailgate Are Landing On Dealer Lots:

5thGenRams Forum Members Have Already Picked Them Up...

Back in February, we were at the Chicago Auto Show when Ram Trucks introduced their all-new Multifunction Tailgate for the Ram 1500. Both MoparInsiders.com and our sister site (5thGenRams.com) have received a lot of questions on the new tailgate design, with one of the most common questions being “when is it going to be available?”

There was some speculation that the Multifunction Tailgate wouldn’t arrive until the 2020 model year. Now, the new tailgate option has found its way into showrooms on 2019 models.

The Ram Multifunction Tailgate’s dual side-hinged tailgate doors further enhance the 1500’s bed access and utility. Independent opening features make curbside loading easier. Being able to access the bed closer to the bumper makes stepping up easier; makes loading bulky items easier; makes unloading and washout easier and allows forklift loading.

Unlike other multi-element tailgates, the Multifunction Tailgate is trailer-friendly and does not require that the trailer and hitch be removed before opening. With a 2,000-lb. load rating and the Multifunction Tailgate retains all of the traditional tailgate’s capability.
