AUCTION: Most-Optioned 1969 Dodge Charger HEMI® Daytona

A Rare Classic Set to Shine at Mecum Monterey 2024...

If you’re a muscle car enthusiast with an eye for rarity, brace yourself for a thrilling opportunity. Headed for Mecum Monterey in August, an exceptional piece of automotive history has emerged – a 1969 Dodge Charger HEMI® Daytona. Known as the most optioned HEMI® Daytona in existence, this could be considered the holy grail of Dodge muscle cars.

Created to annihilate the competition in the NASCAR Grand National (now Cup) series during the 1969 season, the Charger HEMI Daytona was the first car ever to break the 200 mph barrier on a closed course (Talladega SuperSpeedway) with a recorded speed of 200.447 mph on March 24, 1970.

As one of the 503 1969 Dodge Charger Daytonas produced during a brief manufacturing window between April and June 1969, this is one of the rarest configurations. What sets this particular Charger Daytona apart from the rest is not just its rarity, but also its extensive list of options. With only 22 HEMI® Daytona 4-speeds produced in 1969, and this being the most highly optioned one known to exist, it’s truly a collector’s dream.

Under the hood lies the iconic 7.0-liter (426 cubic-inch) HEMI V8 engine. The HEMI was an option over the standard 7.2-liter (440 cubic-inch) MAGNUM 4-BBL V8. The HEMI was SAE rated to deliver 425 horsepower and 490 lb.-ft. of torque, but many claimed that it was underrated. Equipped with the rare A833 4-speed manual transmission option and Super Track Pack which adds a 4.10:1 rear axle ratio, a heavy-duty 9.75 Dana 60 axle, and front disc brakes, this car was built for speed and exhilaration.
