Alfa Romeo CEO Releases Some New Details About A Bigger Than Stelvio UV!
Should Arrive In North America In 2027...
The current-gen Alfa Romeo Stelvio has entered the last stage of its current lifecycle with its recent update. With that being said, the Italian D-segment UV has played a very important role for the brand. Being not only the brand’s biggest vehicle, but its best-selling.
Last summer, Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Phillippe Imperato stated that the Italian marque would be introducing a new battery-electric vehicle (BEV) to the North American market. The vehicle is expect to be even bigger than the current-gen Stelvio and should launch in 2027.
At the recent launch of the Tonale C-segment UV in Japan, Imperato shared some of the provisional specs for the upcoming Alfa BEV UV with Automotive News Europe.
Imperato hinted that the standard lineup of the new vehicle would have output ranging from 300 to 800 horsepower, while the high-performance Quadrifoglio model would put out around 1,000 horsepower. No word on how big the battery packs would be, but Stellantis has made it no secret that it plans to build solid-state batteries for its BEV vehicles by 2026.
He explained using an 800-volt electrical architecture, the new vehicle would have a charging time of 18 minutes. While we are skeptical about the announcement, it would be quite impressive if Alfa could accomplish such a feat.
Imperato also mentioned that the new BEV UV would complete directly with the BMW X5. When compared to the Stelvio, the X5 is 10-inches longer, proving that the new BEV UV will be solidly placed in the E-segment. It is assumed that it will be based on the new STLA Large architecture, which will underpin a number of Stellantis products ranging from the new Jeep® Recon off-roader to the next-gen Dodge Charger Daytona SRT.
During its EV Day 2021 presentation, the Alfa Romeo brand laid out a plan to move towards a fully-electrified lineup by 2028. The brand’s first BEV vehicle is scheduled to appear in 2025.
