Adding Wireless Phone Charging To Our 2023 Chrysler 300C
Aftermarket Allows For Modern Day Conveinces That The 300 Doesn't Have...
The L-series trio (Charger, Challenger, and 300) haven’t seen significant updates since their last major refresh in 2015. While Chrysler Group has made strides in enhancing their supercharged HEMI power plants, the vehicles have fallen behind in terms of technology. Features like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB Type-C outlets, and wireless charging, which have become commonplace in today’s cars, are absent in the L-series models. Since Chrysler Group decided not to invest in incorporating these features before discontinuing the trio, car owners have turned to the aftermarket for solutions.
When I purchased our long-term 2023 Chrysler 300C, I wanted to address the lack of these modern conveniences. Dealing with numerous phone cords in the car, especially when different family members have different phone types, can be a hassle. Additionally, cords often get damaged or lost while on the road. After some searching on Amazon, I found a wireless phone charger that seemed to be the solution, albeit from an unfamiliar Chinese company. Several listings on Amazon offered the same product under different names and prices.
The wireless charger I bought was quite straightforward to set up. It came with an adapter that plugs into the outlet controlled by the ignition, situated in the cubby beneath the climate controls. A small cord connects the backside of the charger’s base to the outlet, powering the base when the ignition is on. The base itself easily slides into the cubby, fitting perfectly. However, if your cubby has a folding door, it won’t close due to the cord being plugged in. Personally, this doesn’t bother me since the door doesn’t obstruct anything important.
The wireless charging base is spacious enough to accommodate most smartphones with wireless charging capabilities. I had no trouble placing my iPhone 14 Pro Max on it. In fact, the base even features an additional USB outlet positioned just in front of the main outlet. This allows a passenger to charge their phone using a cord while the driver uses the wireless charger, or vice versa. The base also includes a power on/off button next to the extra USB outlet, offering some additional control over its operation.
At $62, this purchase was definitely worth the price for anyone who wants to keep their smartphone charged while on the go. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the product, considering its origin from a Chinese company. So far, it has been working great, and I’m satisfied with my choice.
