What’s New For The 2020 Jeep® Compass Lineup:
Sport Models Get More Options For The New Model Year...
If there has been one vehicle to showcase the success of the growth the Jeep® brand on a global scale it has to be the Compass. The global compact SUV is manufactured in four countries (Brazil, Mexico, China, and India) and is sold in over 100 countries. The Compass also offers over 25 different combinations of fuel-efficient powertrain options globally.
But for the North American market, the Compass returns for 2020 with a range of new goodies for the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The Compass continues to offer best-in-class 4×4 off-road capability, authentic Jeep design, superb on-road driving dynamics, and a host of innovative safe and advanced technology offerings.
For 2020, the North American Jeep Compass will offer four trim levels (Sport, Latitude, Trailhawk, and Limited). Three of the models (Sport, Latitude, and Limited) offer front-wheel-drive (4×2) and four-wheel-drive (4×4) options, while the Trailhawk is only available in 4×4. Jeep has announced that at least two special edition models will return for the new model year as well, the Latitude-based Altitude and Limited-based High Altitude model.
Only one engine is available throughout the lineup, the fuel-efficient 2.4-liter MultiAir “Tigershark” inline-four-cylinder engine producing 180 horsepower and 175 lb.-ft. of torque. Three choices of transmissions are available depending on drivetrain.
- 6- Speed Manual Transmission (standard on Sport 4×2, Sport 4×4, and Latitude 4×4)
- 6-Speed Automatic Transmission (standard on Latitude 4×2 and Limited 4×2 and available on Sport 4×2)
- 9-Speed Automatic Transmission (standard on Trailhawk and Limited 4×4 and available on Sport 4×4 and Latitude 4×4).
All automatic transmission options come with standard engine start-stop (ESS). The manual transmission on the fuel-efficient 2.4-liter engine delivers 32 miles per gallon (mpg) highway with 4×2 configuration and best-in-class 31 mpg highway in the 4×4 configuration.
The 2020 Compass offers Jeep Active Drive on Sport 4×4, Latitude 4×4, and Limited 4×4 models. The system is a full-time 4×4 with Selec-Terrain with four modes (Auto, Snow, Sand, and Mud). The system also features 4×4 with rear-axle disconnect, to improve fuel economy.
Compass Trailhawk provides best-in-class 4×4 capability and is only Compass model to earn the “Trail Rated” badge. The Trailhawk features the Jeep Active Drive Low 4×4 system, with a class-leading 20:1 crawl ratio and an exclusive five-mode Jeep Jeep Selec-Terrain system that adds a Rock mode to the Auto, Snow, Sand, and Mud settings from the other 4×4 models. - Increased ride height of 1-inch, compared to the rest of the Compass 4×4 lineup
- Trailhawk-specific fascias that offer 30-degree approach angle, 24-degree breakover angle and 34-degree departure angle

- Up To 19-Inches of Water Fording Capability
- Up To 2,000 lbs. Towing Capability
Changes for the 2020 model year, include the availability of the Safety and Security Group on Sport models. The package includes Gloss Black Exterior Mirrors, Blind-Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path Detection, ParkSense Rear Park Assist System, Rain-Sensing Windshield Wipers, and Security Alarm). Sport models also have the availability of the popular Advanced Safety Group, which includes Leather Steering Wheel, Forward Collision Warning-Plus, Lane Departure Warning-Plus, Auto High-Beam Headlamps, Adaptive Cruise Control, Advanced Brakes Assist, and Auto-Dimming Rearview Mirror).
A new Luxury Seat Group which includes Power Passenger Seat, Memory Driver Seat, and Ventilated Front Seats is now optional on Limited, High Altitude, and Trailhawk models.
Audiophiles will be happy to hear that a new Alpine nine-speaker premium audio system which includes a subwoofer. The new audio system will be available on Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk models.
For 2020, customers have their choice of 12 colors. Those colors include Billet Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Diamond Black Crystal Pearl Coat, Granite Crystal Metallic Clear Coat, Jazz Blue Pearl Coat, Laser Blue Pearl Coat, Olive Green Pearl Coat, Pearl White Tri-Coat (Limited), Redline Red Pearl Coat, Spitfire Orange Clear Coat (Sport and Trailhawk), Sting-Gray Clear Coat (Limited and Trailhawk), Velvet Red Pearl Coat (late availability), and White Clear Coat.
