Richard Hammond Gets A Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody As His New Daily Driver!

DriveTribe Team Gets A New Long-Term Tester...

As America’s favorite four-door muscle car, the Dodge Charger has become a statement for those looking for a large rear-wheel-drive sedan with a performance ego to match. And while modern muscle cars can be seen at almost every stoplight, in emissions-ridden Europe they are almost non-existent.

Luckily for those in the United Kingdom (U.K.), there are options to obtain either a 2022 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Widebody or a 2022 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody. As the official importer of vehicles and parts for the Stellantis’ Dodge & Ram Truck brands in Europe, AEC Europe, a subsidiary of the Canadian AEC Group, makes the four-door Charger available to those looking for such a vehicle.

In the past week, DriveTribe announced they have purchased a Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody as one of their long-term fleet vehicles. Judging by the hood, we can tell that this is a leftover 2020 model. The 707 horsepower sedan is now being used by famed The Grand Tour presenter Richard Hammond as his daily commuter. If you have ever seen any episodes of The Grand Tour or the former Top Gear shows, you will know Hammond loves muscle cars, especially Dodges.

So what does the “Hamster” think of the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody? You will have to watch the video above to find out.

The Charger SRT Hellcat Widebody gets increased front spring rates (32% stiffer than the former non-Widebody Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat), larger sway bars (34mm in the front, 22mm in the rear), and re-tuned shocks with revised valving to complement the stiffer springs. Along with the big Pirelli 305/35ZR20 tires (all-season tires are standard, and three-season tires are available), the car outperforms the 2019 model in every aspect except for top speed (which drops from 204 mph to 196 mph).

Dodge//SRT says the Dodge Charger SRT HELLCAT Widebody runs 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds, has a quarter-mile elapsed time (ET) in 10.96 seconds, and pulls .96 g on the skidpad. It also delivers a road course lap time 2.1 seconds faster than the vehicle it replaces after one lap of a 2.1-mile track. That is equal to 13 car lengths per lap. Impressive numbers for the 4,586 lb. performance sedan.
