Watch: Meet Our New 2022 Ram 1500 Limited Long Term Test Truck!

We Will Keep You Informed As We Put This Truck Through The Paces

A few weeks ago, we picked up a new 2022 Ram 1500 Limited Night Edition to use as a long-term test truck for both MoparInsiders and 5thGenRams. I’ve previously owned a 2016 Ram 1500 Sport, 2020 Ram 1500 Longhorn EcoDiesel, and a 2020 Ram 3500 Limited Cummins HO, and generally was happy with all my previous trucks.

Our 2022 Ram 1500 is a Limited Night Edition 4×4 with the 5.7 Hemi, level 1 group, 3.92 gears, anti-spin diff, trailer brake controller, and trailer hitch. The window sticker shows just how expensive these trucks have gotten in recent years, with this truck coming in just under $93,000 and still having a lot of options left that could be added. (Remember the prices are in Canadian $)

This is my first Ram truck without a sunroof, as the dual-pane sunroof has been on restriction for so long, and it doesn’t bug me not having it as much as I thought it would. This is also the Ram I’ve had without the larger fuel tank, and based on our recent highway MPG test (video below), that might bother me during summer road trips, especially when towing.

So far, I have put 1900 kilometers or 1200 miles on the truck, and overall I’m enjoying it so far.  The truck drives exceptionally well and is smooth and quiet, although the Uconnect 5 system has been very buggy. So far we have added a Bakflip MX4 tonneau cover, hardwired a Uniden R3 radar detector, and added Weathertech in channel ventvisors and no drill rear mudflaps.

Make sure to watch the introduction video and highway MPG video for a more in-depth dive into our new truck. We plan on customizing the truck and bringing you guys along for the ride so stay tuned. One thought I have is adding an exhaust and cold air intake as they are the most common truck modifications, and run a highway mpg test and 0-60 test directly before and after to see if we have any gains in performance or efficiency.
