Dodge//Direct Connection Top Fuel racer Tony Stewart has added another accolade to his storied career. The NASCAR and IndyCar champion was named the 2024 NHRA Rookie of the Year, marking his impressive debut in the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series. The award was announced during the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series Awards Ceremony at the Pechanga Resort Casino.

Stewart faced stiff competition for the honor, with standout rookies like Brandon Foster, Richard Gadson, Derrick Reese, Jasmine Salinas, Sienna Wildgust, Daniel Wilkerson, and Ida Zetterstrom all making strong cases for the title. However, his consistent performance and quick adaptation to the Top Fuel category set him apart.

In his first year competing in Top Fuel, Stewart delivered remarkable results. He reached two final rounds, advanced to four semifinals, and secured a ninth-place finish in the overall points standings. Stewart also made his mark with a career-best run of 3.688 seconds at 334.73 mph in his 11,000-horsepower dragster, a testament to his skill and determination.

This season, Stewart took over driving duties from his wife, Leah Pruett. He seamlessly transitioned to the Top Fuel ranks while balancing the joys of fatherhood. The couple welcomed their first child, Dominic James Stewart, just before the season finale in Pomona, where Stewart advanced to the semifinals.

A Legacy of Excellence –

Stewart’s transition to NHRA continues his legacy of conquering new motorsports challenges. Having formed the Tony Stewart Racing NHRA team in 2022, he initially competed in the Top Alcohol Dragster ranks before making his Top Fuel debut in 2024. His success in NHRA further cements his reputation as one of the most versatile drivers in motorsports history.

Stewart even won his first NHRA divisional championship this year, in the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Top Alcohol Dragster class at the North Central Division.

Reflecting on the honor, Stewart expressed gratitude for the NHRA and his team. “It’s a huge honor to win this award,” Stewart said. “I’ve had a blast this season, and it’s been great to work with the NHRA to promote this incredible sport. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my wife, Leah, and my team.”

Fierce Competition –

This year’s Rookie of the Year field was among the most competitive in NHRA history. Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Richard Gadson made headlines with a strong third-place finish in points, three final-round appearances, and a Mission #2Fast2Tasty NHRA Challenge win. Jasmine Salinas and Ida Zetterstrom showed great potential in Top Fuel, while Daniel Wilkerson, Sienna Wildgust, Brandon Foster, and Derrick Reese impressed in their respective classes.

Celebrating NHRA Rookies –
