This month, the Stellantis Toluca Assembly Plant proudly commemorates an impressive milestone – 55 years of uninterrupted production. Nestled in Toluca, Mexico, this sprawling complex spanning 1.6 million square feet has been a pivotal site since its inauguration in 1968. Over the years, it has been the birthplace of numerous iconic vehicles under the Chrysler Group banner.

The Toluca Assembly Plant has been a cradle for innovation and adaptability since its early days. The facility’s evolution, matched by the skilled and dedicated Mexican workforce, is a testament to its commitment to excellence. This dedication has culminated in the assembly of Jeep® Compass (MP) models for the North American market, exported to both the United States and Canada, earning accolades for their remarkable quality and driving satisfaction among consumers.

Carlos Rivera, Vice President of Manufacturing in Mexico, expressed profound gratitude to the workforce, stating, “For all of us who are part of this plant, it is an honor to celebrate 55 years uninterruptedly producing different vehicles for the world. This achievement has been possible thanks to the excellent workforce and the commitment to always do things better by each of those who work here.”
The plant’s rich history boasts an impressive lineup of vehicles, showcasing the evolution of automotive manufacturing:
- Plymouth Valiant sedans (1968-1970) were marketed as Valiant.
- Plymouth Valiant coupés (1968-1976) were marketed as Valiant.
- Dodge Dart sedans and coupés (1968-1976) were marketed as Dodge Dart, Valiant, and Dodge Super Bee.
- Dodge Aspen & Plymouth Volare sedans, coupés, and wagons (1976-1980) were marketed as Dodge Dart, Valiant Volare, and Valiant Super Bee (the latter only as coupés).
- Plymouth Volare coupé (1976-1980) was marketed as Valiant Volare.
- Dodge Diplomat sedans, coupés, and wagons (1980-1982) were marketed as Dodge Dart.
- Chrysler LeBaron sedans, coupés, and wagons (1977-1995) were marketed as Chrysler LeBaron and Chrysler 600 (only 4-door sedan, 1984 and 1985).
- Dodge Magnum (1981-1988).
- Dodge Aries & Plymouth Reliant sedans, coupés, and wagons (1981-1989) were marketed as Dodge Dart K and Valiant Volare K.
- Dodge 600 sedans (1986-1989) were marketed as Dart by Chrysler.
- Dodge Shadow and Plymouth Sundance (1987-1994).

Renowned for its flexibility within the Stellantis group, the Toluca Complex can craft more than 200,000 combinations, a testament to its manufacturing prowess. Notably, in 2020, the plant clinched the esteemed “J.D. Power Gold Award” for Manufacturing Quality, cementing its position as one of the best plants in North America. This year, the plant reached yet another significant milestone by producing its millionth Jeep Compass, underscoring its consistent production excellence.
