The Rampage Is The Truck We Want, But Can’t Have!
Ram Sheds Light On Its New Compact Pickup For LATAM...
As gas prices, interest rates, and inflation continue to rise, automakers are seeking innovative solutions to meet the demands of truck owners. Ford Motor Company introduced the compact and versatile Ford Maverick, garnering significant attention and praise. Meanwhile, Ram, a brand known for its powerful full-size pickups, is preparing to make a grand reentry into the smaller truck segment with the highly anticipated 2024 Ram Rampage.
This unibody-based pickup, based on the architecture of the Jeep® Compass and Commander, aims to carve its own path in the market and stand out from its competitors, particularly in Latin America where Ram seeks to differentiate itself from its corporate cousin, Fiat.
The Ram Rampage has generated excitement even before its official unveiling, with tantalizing teaser images and a new video showcasing its striking aesthetics. Resembling a miniature version of the renowned Ram 1500, the Rampage exudes a rugged and captivating presence. The Rebel trim, in particular, enhances its appeal with distinctive design elements. Accommodating up to five passengers, the truck offers a spacious interior while retaining its compact footprint.
Under the hood, the Ram Rampage is expected to feature the popular turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four-cylinder engine, known for its performance in the current Jeep Wrangler (JL). This powertrain choice ensures a balance of power and efficiency, making it well-suited for the demands of urban driving and occasional off-road adventures. Paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission sourced from ZF, the Rampage is expected to deliver a smooth and responsive driving experience.
In terms of capability, the Rampage’s 4×4 system is anticipated to be borrowed from the Jeep Commander, providing impressive off-road prowess and the ability to tackle various weather conditions. While not positioned as a hardcore off-roader, the Rampage is expected to offer sufficient capabilities for light off-roading enthusiasts.
With the compact truck market currently offering limited options such as the Ford Maverick and the Hyundai Santa Cruz, the arrival of the Ram Rampage has the potential to shake up the industry. Ram has been successful in growing its presence in Latin America, particularly Brazil, and the Rampage aims to differentiate itself from the Fiat brand, which dominates the truck market in the region.
By entering the North American market, Ram would have an opportunity to capture a significant share of the compact truck segment. The Rampage’s stylish design, capable performance, and competitive pricing could make it a compelling choice for customers seeking a versatile and efficient truck.
